  • new computer

    - 05 Dec 2012 - 5 comments
A busy day today I have my new desktop computer up and running. When I had my old one patched up for the umpteenth time the idea was to have it as my main computer again and then the laptop could do what it was designed for being portable. Due the the age of my old machine,it had Windows 2000 installed when I got it,this has not been possible. The CPU isn't up to the jobs that I am asking it to do nowadays and the Bios battery is on it's last lap around the block. These problems can be solved of…

  • It started in town and has reached the island

    - 04 Dec 2012 - 3 comments
What has? I hear you cry,why the dreaded Christmasitis. There is an outbreak prior to Christmas every year and it's starting to break out earlier with every passing year. The first people around here to fall were the poor souls who felt they had to have a reindeer and a tree under their front window. This ailment continues unabated and is very contagious but soon after Christmas it dies down This seems to coincide with the TV being full of holiday advertisements telling you to book early for y…

  • A busy time today so here's photo phun

    - 04 Dec 2012 - 3 comments
It is the early hours here and I am not far off climbing the wooden hills to Bedfordshire where they put the ugly folk and others too.Tomorrow or later today in fact I have a busy day in the computer world, more of which as it is sorted so I thought I would leave this in case everything goes belly up ,see how polite I was there? I would normally say tits up. I am posting the photo phun( that non-word sill annoys me Summer) topic for the day .The subject is wrinkles so here are a couple of ex…

  • Who discovered America ?

    - 03 Dec 2012 - 2 comments
Who Discovered America is a question long asked, Well it was never any of the Europeans named. By the time the Americas were discovered by them there was already thriving populations there thank you very much. The same thing goes for Africa, Australia,New Zealand etc. All places given names by arrogant Europeans and claimed in the name of their Monarch. It will take somebody very clever to convince me that a country that has people already living there can be discovered. How can you dis…

  • The Christmas market with photos

    - 02 Dec 2012 - 3 comments
I wandered over to see the Christmas Market this morning which turned out to be a bad move, although it was nigh on eleven few stalls were open. It appears they get sorted for lunchtime opening. Still I got snaps of the few that were open or getting ready at least. The young girl on the crafts stall was very chipper. This was my favourite stall, well OK the Lakeland Steak was but this run it close. For a little stall it covered just about any arts and crafts item from cheap and cheerful to proper st…

  • Christmas market day and photo phun

    - 02 Dec 2012 - 2 comments
Today is the second day of the Christmas market in town,I will have a wander over later for a shufty. I don't think it will be a shopping spree more a gasp of "HOW MUCH" ? Still it sounds promising ground for running into idiots which is a good way to waste a little time and I have plenty. I noticed the photo phun thing is action today although all I have seen to date in a very inactive cat I have a couple for you on the theme, photos not cats. Firstly a cyclist who passed me down the lane…

  • Cleaning the cleaners

    - 01 Dec 2012 - 3 comments
I was emptying and wiping down my carpet sweeper earlier when I realised how much cleaning the things that do our cleaning need. Vacuum cleaners seem to get as much dust on the outside as on the in and the filters clog up,dusters get dusty, washing up bowls need a regular wash.If you have hard water kettles, washing machines and dishwashers need descaling, tumble driers need de-fluffing,pedal bins need disinfecting, shower heads need the holes de-gunked, the list is endless. I never realised how m…

  • Mandoline for photo phun and easy meal

    - 30 Nov 2012 - 5 comments
I am posting a photo of yesterday's easy chicken meal so I thought I would do the photo phun and post one on it's theme, kitchen implement. This is my favourite for making things easy. It is a mandoline of sorts and has 3 different graters for rubbing down finger ends and a blade for slicing them off, also on the inside of the lid you see beside it there is a nutmeg grinder. The sliced or ground finger ends fall into the container. P.S. can also be used on vegetables, cheese etc.…

  • Ice, easy dinner and new runners

    - 29 Nov 2012 - 3 comments
A cold crisp day here with the temps not expected to get above freezing. I was on ice breaking duty this morning because I forgot to empty the bird bath and feeder a daily chore from now until spring. With not much to do today I decided I would just indulge myself in sorting and scanning old photos so dinner needed to be easy. I decided on an easy chicken stew made like this. I have some bought cooked cubed chicken breast in the freezer which some folk get a little sn…

  • Negative to photo with one click

    - 29 Nov 2012 - 2 comments
Most of you who do photo editing will know this so if you can add anything please do. I showed you the negative to photo fix from Dotty's machine yesterday but all you need is a half decent photo programme. In Paintshop Pro go to adjust/colour balance/negative In Photo shop go to image /adjustments/invert For other software just have a browse you should find it Just one click job done, depending on the state of the negative you may need to do a little adjusting or resizing. Some of…

  • Do you still use a cheque book?

    - 28 Nov 2012 - 7 comments
Do you still use a cheque book?that's check to you lot over the pond by the way.I just wondered how many do nowadays,a neighbour I met earlier said she was going to post a cheque for something. That got me thinking about the last cheque I wrote or indeed where my cheque book is. I wandered off to find it and discovered the last cheque was my quarterly electricity bill written in October 2008 for the princely sum of £27:41,the bill for the same period last year was £84:30. This year is eve…

  • Dot's new gadget

    - 28 Nov 2012 - 4 comments
Dot has a new gadget to play with and as it is more technical than turning on a light I am test pilot again. This arrangement comes in handy because when they break it which they surely will I will have some idea how it works so I can fix it. The latest toy scan negatives and turns them into photos, colour and monochrome. I decided to try an old negative first. This is a very young looking Margaret in Dublin circa 1962. I think the young lady with her must be from the hotel they stayed at is ce…

  • first frost

    - 28 Nov 2012 - 3 comments
We had the first frost overnight not a heavy one just enough to make my breath visible when I brought the bin in this morning. The sun is shining the birds are singing and with enough layers it's a good day for a stroll on the beach. I won't be attempted going south down the village road Thorney will still be under water so after lunch I will don the cold weather gear and head for the Round House and see if there is anything worth snapping. I should arrive there at an hour or so after high wat…

  • a good day out and a visitor

    - 27 Nov 2012 - 3 comments
This morning I noticed what was once a pool in the garden is developing a scum on top so I guess it is now officially a pond and it has plant life starting to surface. Frogs to come do you think? that would be nice if they can avoid the gulls. I wandered off to the Numpty house today which will mean nothing to most of you. Dot and Pep were in good fettle although in another crisis, but they seem to thrive on them. They are starting to buy the Christmas tat as alway…

  • and then there was one

    - 27 Nov 2012 - 7 comments
Twelve old contacts from Multiply made it here around the same time I did. 3 didn't settle and wandered off pretty quickly, 6 visit very occasionally and post little,2 comment most days and post daily, this leaves only one from the refugees who comments daily, that's Jenny. I guess being my friend she would. As I have mentioned enough times the photo posting is a waste of time looks like blogging is going the same way. I will give it until the new year to see if things pick up as there not enoug…

  • a view from the bridge

    - 26 Nov 2012 - 2 comments
I like taking photographs it is one of the things that stops me becoming a hermit. A stroll around this little island always throws up a surprise or two. A summers walk on the beach if the sun remembers to shine is a delight but would not be half as much fun without my little pocket camera to hand. When I came here to ipernity I had high hopes of getting back to the heady days of 360 when photographs played a big part in our daily posts.Multiply was slightly disappointing after that and the…

  • ooops forgot to do title

    - 25 Nov 2012 - 3 comments
My Sunday morning stroll over the bridge for a little shopping was banjaxed by the weather so I flashed the pass instead. I wanted to go to Wilko's for a little runner I spotted last week. With me only being able to get comfy in the office chair with wheels I need something underneath it to stop excessive wear on the new carpet. So with that bought and time before the bus home I had a stroll around Cooltrader to see if they had any bargains before I got to Iceland for my big shop tomorrow. I fou…
