1940 Deileptenia ribeata (Satin Beauty), form sericearia

1940 Deileptenia ribeata (Satin Beauty), form sericearia
Geometridae, Ennominae Wingspan: 36-52mm.

A common species throughout the UK, and widespread in Cornwall, although in greater numbers towards the east of the county. In most places, the dark form, f.sericearia is common, having a sooty texture to the wings obscuring the detail. Lighter versions have a row of quite large black spots down the outside edge of the forewings, and some of the more prominent ones can be seen on this specimen faintly against the background. It is Usually found in broadleaf deciduous woodland, although some vagrants may come into established gardens.

Although the flight season in the UK is quoted as late June to mid August, in Cornwall, they start appearing in May, and continue through into September.
