1796 Epirrita christyi (Pale November Moth)

1796 Epirrita christyi (Pale November Moth)
Geometridae, Larentiinae - Wingspan: 30-40mm.

One of a few common species which can cause problems in identification due to the similarity and variability of all members. Certain wing features are claimed to be usable at times, but nothing is clear. Without genitalia verification, they are all often included as an "aggregate" of species, where the ID is uncertain. This specimen is a representative of the problem, which may be the above ID. Populations seem to have single species in locations, so once one is identified, it is reasonable to assume that other individuals in the same area are the same, however there is no complete certainty.

The flight season for the Pale November Moth appears slightly earlier, to be September to November, peaking in October.
