1775 Colostygia multistrigaria (Mottled Grey)

1775 Colostygia multistrigaria (Mottled Grey)
Geometridae, Larentiinae - Wingspan: 26-34mm.

This small "Carpet" is a common species throughout the UK, and also widespread in Cornwall. One of the few species which can be found in Winter. Wing patterns are fairly bland and mottled in grey and brown. Although there is some evidence of a mid-forewing band, it is usually far from prominent. In keeping with a few other autumn and winter species, the patterns are quite cryptic.

The flight season in the UK generally is quoted as March and April, but in Cornwall, specimens have been recorded from the end of November through the winter and into April. A single specimen has been recorded in June.
