1779 Hydriomena ruberata (Ruddy Highflyer)

1779 Hydriomena ruberata (Ruddy Highflyer)
Geometridae, Larentiinae - Wingspan: 28-34mm.

Co-occurring partially with the May Highflyer as a flight season, it can easily be mistaken casually for that species, but generally the overall colour is a distinctive warm brown, a colour cast which the May Highflyer never has. Even the paler central fore-wing band has a greyish brown shade. A locally distributed species, it occurs in Moorland areas, so is more likely to be found towards the west of Cornwall.

The flight season in Cornwall has been recorded from late April to May, the peak being early May. However odd specimens may occur in early June.
