1893 Macaria liturata (Tawny Barred Angle)

1893 Macaria liturata (Tawny Barred Angle)
Geometridae, Ennominae - Wingspan: 28-34mm.

A generally common species in the UK. It is, however, distributed mainly to the east of Cornwall, and restricted to plantations which contain fir trees. It may change though, as the UK forestry Commission is removing fir plantations, to replace them with more natural deciduous tree mixes, so we could expect a reduction in the population of this species. Numbers recorded have always been quite low, so it may become a rarity in our area.

Cornwall records show a single peak in the flight season, mainly in June / July, with only occasional specimens occurring in April / May and August / September.
