1877 Hydrelia sylvata (Waved Carpet)

Geometridae, Larentiinae - Wingspan: 22-26mm.

A Nationally Scarce species which is distributed in the west and south-east of the UK. In Cornwall, it is only found in the eastern half of the county. It can be identified with the pale brown thin wavy cross bands across the fore-wings, and the scattered brown scales over the wings giving a slightly drab look to the insects.

The UK flight season is given as June to early August, but in Cornwall individuals are also seen earlier in May.
