1903 Plagodis pulveraria (Barred Umber)

1903 Plagodis pulveraria (Barred Umber)
Geometridae, Ennominae - Wingspan: 34-38mm.

A local species which is restricted to ancient broadleaf woodland throughout the UK. In Cornwall mainly restricted to central and eastern parts of the county. It could possibly be confused with a similar looking species, 1962 Hylaea fasciaria (Barred Red), which in Cornwall partially overlaps flight times, but they are unlikely to occur together because of different larval food-plants which do not occur together. However with this species, the cross-wing bar is prominently darker, and the outer edge of the bar is deeply jagged in outline.

The flight season in the UK is May and June, but occasional individuals may be seen in April and July.
