1881 Trichopteryx carpinata (Early Tooth-striped)

1881 Trichopteryx carpinata (Early Tooth-striped)
Geometridae, Larentiinae - Wingspan: 26-36mm.

A common species widespread throughout the UK, which is quite distinctive in the Spring moths. It is quite variable, but has a pale grey general colouration, although greenish or brownish casts in the colour are possible. The fore-wings have a number of brown wavy bands which are particularly prominent along the front edges.

The flight season in the UK is specified as April to May, but in Cornwall it can be as early as February, and occasional individuals may be seen in June.
