A view from the mill window.

A view from the mill window.
Across the River Stour from Sturminster Newton Mill.

042 Derek Kinzett

I saw what I think is a Derek Kinzett wire sculpture along the river footpath. A nice touch, holding the bird feeder.

024 Stur mill edited-2

A multi-span bridge, dating from the late C15 or early C16; widened in the C17. It has traffic lights as it is only wide enough for cars going one way.

Holger Hagen, Leif Fielstrup Guldbrandsen, Tanja - Loughcrew, Chris10 and 38 other people have particularly liked this photo

Terrific collection of images from this mill Rosa, but you have excelled with the main image. The reflections, light, colours and perspective are spot on, congratulations.

I love all three of these images Rosa..............but the main one is just outstanding! Beautifully composed under an awesome sky, with lovely colours and reflections. Great work..!!

The wire sculpture is really lovely. I'd love to see a large version of the multi-span bridge, I think it would be excellent.

Thank you for your kind compliments Keith. I must admit I was pleased with the sky!
Have have previously taken a closer picture of the bridge. I am away for a few days but I will look it out when I'm back. I once saw an exhibition of Derek Kinzett's wire sculptures in Lacock Abbey and always liked them, so was delighted to spot this one. Actually there was another at the other end of the balcony but I couldn't get a clear shot of it.

A lovely wide angle view especially with the reflection of the clouds. Access is denied to the other two shots !! I was trying to see if the bridge has recesses to stand in if you met a packhorse when crossing. Another warm if windy day

Thank you for your nice comments Peter. What do you view the pictures on? If I view on a tablet I cannot access PiP's, that's why I also show them underneath. I have got a closer view from a previous trip, of the bridge. I will look it out shortly.

What a stunning vista, Rosa. The view from the window is quite breath taking. I love the reflection of the clouds in the River Stour.

The wire sculpture reminds me of the work of Andy Scott (of Kelpies fame). The pose of the sculpture sitting on the edge of the balcony is reminiscent of Antony Gormley.

I love the angle from which you have photographed the old bridge. The curve of the river adds ideal foreground interest, and acts as a lead-in line to draw the eye to the main subject.

Cheers,

Joe

Thank you very much Joe. The weather was just right on that day. Sometimes we are lucky!

Yes I can see similarities to Andy Scott and Antony Gormley. I saw a wonderful exhibition of Derek Kinzett's work in the grounds of Lacock Abbey a few years ago and was very taken with it. I was really excited to this two of his sculptures (I'm sure they are his) sat either end of the balcony of this house.

I was quite a distance from the bridge Joe and wish now that I had walked closer to it along the river. Never mind, something for next time! Your comments on all three pictures are much appreciated. Cheers, Rosa.
