The Sun Inn ~ Frome

The Sun Inn ~ Frome
The Sun Inn is a lively locals pub and boasts one of Frome’s largest courtyard gardens. It is well known for its real ales, cold filter beers and traditional ‘rough’ Somerset ciders and an unusual alternative entrance!

A lovely building I would have thought the council could have managed a more decorative street even the older streets in Groby are better than that one. Is the man walking the yellow lines trying to see if he is sober enough to go home ???

Rosalyn Hilborne club has replied to Peter Castell club
The street is fabulous Peter. I can't understand why you think that. This is the top of Catherine Hill and Catherine street is just around the bend with an array a beautiful individual shops. I can report that the man in the picture did not come from the pub :-)

I missed out two words it is supposed to be street name plate a lot of councils use more decorative ones in more special areas. There is a 'tardis' style Police Box in Newtown Linford it's Grade 2 listed and still used by the police

The strange thing is that it has never been the High Street, so not sure why that street sign is there. The old high street in Frome is now called Gentle Street, which I will show a few pictures of next week. I have seen a mobile toilet like the tardis with Dr Loo written on it!

A fabulous shot and PiP, Rosa!
The sort of shot that can sometimes make me feel homesick!
On the (increasingly rare) occasion I visit home, I go to a fave pub from the past and find one of a few things,
1) the landlord has changed and the atmos has gone for a burton (sorry Keith!),
2) It's karaoke night - from which I run a mile,
3) it is now an old peoples home on the site,
4) it is a souless Weatherspoons,
5) They stopped doing real ale,
6) they have delusions of grandeur and are now charging London prices,
So I'm nearly always disappointed but they do say - never go back! - and they could well be right!

Rosalyn Hilborne club has replied to Andy Rodker club
Thank you very much Andy. If you are ever in the Somerset, Dorset region I can tell you of half a dozen traditional pubs that you would love. All I can say about Wetherspoons is that at least they have saved some very nice buildings. Apart from that I agree with you.

Yes, a pub with a warning, but probably more to do with Dr Who's time machine :-))
Thank you very much for your kind comments and welcome back!!

Looks and sounds like my kind of pub! You can not go far wrong if a pub is frequented by the locals. Unfortunately such pubs are becoming more uncommon. A fine pair of shots of this fine building and its unique? entrance.

Thank you for your kind comments Doug. Whether they survive the current situation with electric and inflation, is another matter. I hope they do though.

All the best, Rosa.

Such a beautiful looking pub................and I love the quirky door.............I guessing in true Tardis style the pub is much bigger on the inside that it looks from the outside!

I also like the detail you've captured and the colour of the stonework as well as the heavy wooden beams above the door and windows.

Two lovely images Rosa!

This "pub around the corner" has a striking charm and originality! Your panoramic view is very good and puts it into perspective nicely. Hard to imagine its large courtyard!
It's wise to have drawn these lines on the floor to guide tipsy customers home! :-)
Have a great weekend, Rosa.

Thank you very much for your generous comments Eric. I agree, it is hard to imagine a large courtyard, but it is ;-)) Strangely enough, I have never seen cars on this road, so maybe that is what the yellow lines are for!!
Have a great weekend Eric.
