Cheap Street, Frome.

Cheap Street, Frome.
Cheap street in Frome (pronounced froom) has retained its historic medieval character, with a leat running down the middle, carrying water from the stream beneath St John’s Church. There are a wide range of independent shops and cafes selling books, clothing, records, jewellery, bags & artisan food, bread and cakes. I did notice a couple of empty shops that I hope will soon be filled.

Istvan Farkas, micritter, Marco F. Delminho, Nouchetdu38 and 29 other people have particularly liked this photo

Thank you for your kind comments Günter. Sometimes children put their little toys in the stream and run down the other end to catch it :-)

Best wishes & a good new week, Rosa.

A great perspective and composition Rosa. I really like the higgledy-piggledy buildings and the leat (a new word for me that I had to look up). There seems to be a nice collection of interesting shops there, which I'm sure my wife would love. Great detail and colourful bunting too.

Beautifully captured..!!

I hope you've had a good weekend.

Thank you Keith. Oh yes your wife would love it. There is an excellent book shop and the cafe you can see at the end of the street is pretty good as well :-)

Thank you for your kind comments. Have a good new week.

Love shopping in Frome as you say loads of indie shops, most a little quirky. Hardly a chain store in sight. Your image does Frome proud Rosa!

Una hermosa foto de calle turística, Rosa.
Esa acequia puede producir esguinces de tobillos. Sería menos peligrosa si estuviera cubierta con una rejilla de quita y pon con el agua a la vista.

like that for over 500 years :-)

Nice tones too.

Thank you very much Eric. It's usually much busier than in my photo,
but it was a Bank Holiday Monday. Just a few of the shops open.
Enjoy the new week Eric.

A super shot, Rosa!
Sadly, empty shops are becoming a feature here too. Longstanding family concerns that survived recessions and competition from supermarkets are finally succumbing to the economic reality of covid.

And now the fall out from the war in Ukraine, it doesn't get any better does it!
I am pleased you like this shot though, and long may the independent shops remain :-)

A photo full of colour and life! This sort of shopping street with small individual shops is so much nicer than the soulless shopping streets which look the same in every town. I hope Cheap Street (nothing cheap about it;-) will contnue to thrive.

Rosalyn Hilborne club has replied to Gudrun club
I couldn't agree more with you Gudrun. Long may they survive. Apparently cheap is a medieval word meaning 'to sell'. That's why almost every town has a Cheap Street I guess :-))

A lovely glimpse of this little street in Frome Rosa. It is good that the smaller independents are mostly managing to survive when many of the larger 'chain' stores are closing. It is good to have different shops with more choice. There are not many towns that can boast they only have a few empty shops!

Have a lovely evening

Thank you Carol. Most of the shops in Cheap Street are long standing businesses. I hope they can all survive his difficult period!

Happy Wednesday.

They've put the flags out for you, Rosa. As far as empty shops are concerned - I wonder if they will ever be filled. Shrewsbury is plagued by them and the arcade resembles a mouth with missing teeth. ;-)
Rosalyn Hilborne club has replied to Amelia club
They always do that for me Amelia ;-)) It's a shame to see so many empty shops. I do know that a record shop, Raves from the Grave, that was in Cheap Street has moved to the adjacent street because of the increased rent! I know this as my brother Ray is probably their best customer ;-))
