HFF ~ It's a Wind up!
Taken in Bruton, Somerset. I have never been able to find anything out about it!
I have had a reply from Bruton Community Hall about the key. This is it:
Hi Rosalyn,
Thank you for your interest in the ‘Key’ !
Many years ago - not sure exactly( I could look it up,,,,,,,,,!) - there was an open art competition to fill an open round window/vent in the attic of the hall. The artist who won had made a wooden key and we, the judges, thought it was eye-catching, fun and a slight dig to people to keep going! As you might say - a ‘wind up’!!
However in 2017 we noticed that the poor key was falling apart with all the weather thrown at it. The hall committee, at that time, were persuaded to replace it with a metal, more long lasting key.
After chatting to the original artist, John Sydenham, he agreed we could replace his key and was happy for us to go ahead.
I did some research and found an image, a forge to make and install it. The committee all agreed to this research and so it was done!!
So, there is no historical significance as such - just a whimsical art competition !!
Hope your next visit to Bruton and the key will make you smile?
Best wishes
Fran

Beautiful architecture.........captured in super detail as usual and I love that key!
I've also tried to find some info about it, but all I managed to dig up was a stock photo of it on Alamy (which was not as good as yours). I think Roger has the most logical explanation.
Enjoy the rest of your day Rosa........and have a lovely weekend.
Rosalyn Hilborne club has replied to Keith Burton clubHave a good and sunny weekend Keith.
A wonderful and interesting picture, which I like very much!
Very nice composition, but most especially a nice puzzle to figure out what it is!
If I get some useful idea, I will let you know!
Great colours too
Best Wishes, HFF, a nice weekend, and stay safe!!

Belated HFF
Peter_Private_Box club has replied to MaggsMep clubYou will find it on the Community Hall, (lat long 51.1118144,-2.4528741) , but it is at the back. Just about visible from the river bridge, but there is a path on the opposite side of the river where I think Rosa took her picture from.
Of course you could solve the mystery for all of us by walking into the hall and asking!
Best Wishes and keep safe!
Peter,
PS, maybe it is an old fashioned carpet beater, not a key!!
Rosalyn Hilborne club has replied to MaggsMep clubRosalyn Hilborne club has replied to Peter_Private_Box clubSunday greetings, Rosa.
The "key" is indeed a very intriguing mystery: didn't you take a picture of a model and make us believe it was a real site? ;-)
Belated HFF, Rosa!
Rosalyn Hilborne club has replied to Eric Desjours clubI hope I will soon have the answer to why the key is there, and I will be sure to tell you all.
Thank you for your kind comments.
Sunday greetings, Rosa.
Rosalyn Hilborne club has replied to John LawrenceSunday greetings.
Enjoy your sunday evening*****
Rosalyn Hilborne club has replied to Nouchetdu38 clubSunday greetings and a good new week.
vriendelijke groeten, Frans.
Rosalyn Hilborne club has replied to Frans Schols clubso let's see what I get in return :-))
Thanks for your kind comments and I wish you a good new week,
Rosa.
Vriendelijke groeten, Frans.
