I'm wondering if the "cupboard" was originally a cave...............and this current view was formed by the roof collapsing into the sea.

Exactly so, Keith. Probably more than one cave. Porthcadjack, the next cove along, was formed in exactly the same way and the process is ongoing as with my shot here of that enormous cave.
