I know I’m repetitive, but the built forms, the high contrasts, the looking into interior spaces at isolated figures do bring me back to Edward Hopper’s way of seeing the world. Though I’ve never seen a Hopper scene where the inner space includes part of the city.

Hopper seems to have shown reflections on glass only rarely, and never any that interfered or competed with the stream of light onto his subjects. I've probably mentioned this before, but his paintings seem to me to be all about light, and so it seemed to him, I think -- "Maybe I am not very human - what I wanted to do was to paint sunlight on the side of a house."

Another unconscious influence, probably. Photography has chiefly taught me who I'm copying.

Thanks, Jean. Now that you mention it, I realize how chaotic Toronto actually is. The British laid the city out in a grid (to facilitate land grants), but to a large extent that has been like stuffing chaos into boxes.

I suppose you miss the chaos in your hometown. On my frequent visits to Norwich, though, I often find myself wondering what was going through people's minds when they put in a specific street. Often the answer is that the Normans or Vikings wanted to keep the people under control. However, I do know that the development of my neighbourhood started with rich people building summer homes on the escarpment that runs east and west through Toronto. This eventually involved, among other things, destroying parts of ravines.
