Even more coastal erosion

Even more coastal erosion
Near Porthtowan, Cornwall. The coast path went across here not all that long ago. Full screen best here I think.

Spectacular cliff!!
The color pink is also superb, Andy

Andy Rodker club has replied to J.Garcia club
Not sure what causes the pink but maybe a little bit (not much) of iron (?).
Many thanks, Judite!

Lovely pinkish soil. It's strange to think of our island getting smaller bit by bit. I'm trying to think of coastline which is growing but I can't think of any.
Andy Rodker club has replied to Jean
Thank you, Jean. Actually there are many places, they just don't tend to be along the more scenic coasts. And the accumulation is slow and gradual, rather than quick and spectacular as with much erosion. Think Romney Marsh, Thanet no longer Island, etc.

Looking at the type of soil it seems amazing it lasted so long, if we had accurate maps of say 1000 years ago the shape of the UK would be very different
3 years ago.
Andy Rodker club has replied to Peter Castell club
There are many hilltop sites either long-vanished (but recorded in, say, the 16th century) or where you have the (originally) inland defensive ramparts now on the cliff edge. I will post (re-post) just one such example in the next few days or so.
Thank you, Peter!

I find it interesting that the foreground area of landslip looks like a loose shale, while the grey headland behind looks like solid rock. This is the kind of image that makes me wish I'd studied geology! Either way, an impressive coastal image, Andy.
Andy Rodker club has replied to tiabunna club
Parts of Cornwall are a right royal mishmash of rock types. Only where you get granite (and there's quite a lot of that too) is the coastal erosion less marked.
Thank you, George!

A super image that illustrates the ongoing coastal erosion along the coast. The fresh looking colours makes it seem that this is fairly new, which is obviously not the case (although I suppose that in the grand scheme of things, this is quite recent)!

Beautifully captured Andy

Andy Rodker club has replied to Keith Burton club
Well, the shot was taken in 2014 and I used to walk across here in the years 1998 to 2002, quite regularly (I didn't have a camera then so it's a pity I can't show comparison photos!).
The coast path keeps having to be put back. In this shot it hasn't yet been closed off and you can see it on the top by the edge. Of course, the heather needs a long time to regrow in this unforgiving coastal area but even so the path did go across here and in and out and up and down where the growth can be seen. I bet the path is today quite some way inland. I haven't walked here since this shot.
Thank you, Keith!

Great chunks of it coming away in the Southeast of the UK. A piece on TV showed a home owner who had a hundred foot garden two years age is now down to 15 foot. He concedes it's now time to move on.

Hi Andy

A very nice picture, which I guess illustrates the power of nature very well. The processes happening today have been happening for millions of year in the past...

Best Wishes, a nice week to come, and stay safe!!
