Circumference vs. Height

I'll give you a classic pub puzzle...

Which one is more?

A) Circumference of the glass rim is more

B) Glass rim height from the table top is more

No cheating! I can see who has visited the pages! ;-)

Hi Sami.
With us in Bavaria, the Question is rather: Is the Glass of Beer half full or half empty ...? ;-))
Sami Serola (inactiv… club has replied to ©UdoSm club
Classic dilemma it is. In my opinion it depends on the taste of beer. If it is bad, the glass is always way too full. But if it is good, it is always way too empty.

That's how I suspected it too... ;-))

For pessimists, the glass is half empty. For optimists, the glass is half full. And for scientists, the glass is two times too big for that amount of beer. ;-))

What we need then is science to bring us a vessel that adapts to the amount of content!

You start with a pint, and end up drinking from a thimble! =D

polytropos club has replied to Sami Serola (inactiv… club
Yes, and that leads then to the point, when you've finished the thimble to say: the less I drink, the more drunk I am! ;-))

Surely it must depend on the diameter of the glass. A tall thin straight glass will have a smaller circumference than the glass height; whereas a wide base straight glass will have a larger circumference than the glass height.

Sami Serola (inactiv… club has replied to Amelia club
Yes of course... But if you have to estimate which is more based on the glass you see in the image.

As a mathematician my first step is to rephrase the question equivelantly so that it is easier to find the answer: Is the height more than 3.14 times bigger than the diameter?
Sami Serola (inactiv… club has replied to Guido Werner club
Yes, not so difficult puzzle if you know exact measurements, and then very easy to just calculate. But if one can only estimate based on how it looks.

I see you chose wrong ;-)

Guido Werner club has replied to Sami Serola (inactiv… club
I had read too late that you can see who has visited the pages. I then tried to cover up my track by visiting all pages. But probably You could see the order in time. :-)

Sami Serola (inactiv… club has replied to Guido Werner club
Ha ha ha! =D

No, that can not be seen, only the date. But from the game point of view visit at the "wrong answer" page is counted as a wrong choice at the game.

But isn't this a clever use of private access links and visits? Something that I had never before thought, and it was fun to put it in use.

Of course it does not work if someone visit the pages anonymously (not logged in or not letting others know when online here at ipernity).

without the cards laying under it I would have guessed circumference had easily won, now I would call it a draw, so there no option to visit for me.................. ;-)

OK. Just looking at the photo, I'd say the circumference is greater than the height. Maybe if I drunk the contents I'd see the correct solution more easily.

Sami Serola (inactiv… club has replied to Amelia club
I'm surprised to see people don't dare to click those links to choose ;-)

But, if you take that solution, and drink to see more easily, be prepared to double your guess =D

I've clicked on both links now. Drinking the contents has made me incautious. ;-)

Sami Serola (inactiv… club has replied to Diederik Santema club
Neither. You have to ignite them first =D

Without looking, I'm going to guess it's the rim because the height seems way too obvious! :)

The picture, by the way, is GREAT! I would love to play a few games with you please! :)

P.S. Thank you for the game! I loved it! I got it right once, and wrong once! :D

Yes, noticed from the page visits ;-)

This idea could be used more, to create playful guessing games. There are private access links and page visit feature used.
Guido Werner club has replied to Sami Serola (inactiv… club
I think that I have learned something new about private access links today. I have determined in my account settings that nobody shall be informed about my visits. So when I visit a photopage usually the photo owner can't see that I have visited the page. But if I understand you correctly it is different with private access links. When a logged in user follows a private access link the photo owner can always see which user has visited the photopage. Is that correct?
Sami Serola (inactiv… club has replied to Guido Werner club
Yes, you seem to be right about it.

I tested it with FAQ account. When a user set the visibility as private, visits a public image, AND does not comment, then the visit is counted as "anonymous visit". If the user who has set the visibility as private, makes a comment, then her/his visit becomes identified.

BUT if that user then follows a link for private image, then the ipernity account visit on that private document indeed becomes identified, no matter if the user has commented or not! =O

It sort of makes sense, because in case of private documents the author should become informed who has visited, if it is possible. If someone who has not logged in gains access the private content (e.g. knows the unique URL for it), then of course it is counted only as anonymous visit.
