Google Map pop up misbehavior on Chrome

Google Map pop up misbehavior on Chrome
UPDATE 12 April 2019: Since August 2018 Google map has given the following false behavior on some Chrome browsers. See discussions for latest status.

When trying to save the location, zoom buttons are missing.
Buttons missing

When opening location on own photos, the map and all buttons are missing, and only location is shown.

When opening location on someone else's album the map opens but the location indicator and zoom buttons are missing.
Location indicator missing

A temporary workaround

All those becomes fixed if the map or page output size becomes changed. If one clicks for example Ctrl-+ to change the page layout size, all gets back to normal. Same thing if the user toggles map to full screen and back.

UPDATES:
The reason and solution probably is the outdated API version number called on the link for Google Maps. One should call v=quarterly instead of some version number. See here: developers.google.com/maps/documentation/javascript/versions

It is tested that clearing cache, history and cookies does not fix this.

It has turned out the bug is very selective. On different computers, both having the exact same Chrome browser version, maps work either just right or the mentioned bug appears.

Reported cases where the bug appears:
- Chrome 68.0.3440.106 (Offizieller Build) (64-Bit), OS Windows 10 Home with build 17134.228, display 1920 * 1080 pixels.
- Chrome 68.0.3440.106 (Official Build) (64-bit), OS Windows 7 Enterprise Version 6.1 (Build 7601: Service Pack1), display 1366 x 768.
- Chrome 68.0.3440.106 (Official Build) (64-bit), OS Windows 10, display 1920x1080.

So far found this: stackoverflow.com/questions/51833112/google-maps-api-not-showing-icons-for-zoom-buttons-streetview-or-fullscreen/51839688

If that means we have to change something on API (or CSS) at our end, I say that is annoying...

Alright, it looks Google has indeed chanced the API version to 3.34. Current link refers to version 3.17. According to Stackoverflow discussion one would get the problem fixed by using 'quarterly' instead of version number (v=quarterly). At least we are maybe getting somewhere.

And why this does not affect on any other than Chrome browser is still a mystery.

I experience that as well. It's not only annoying when trying to position a photo (for which there are other ways) but when looking at the position of other people's photo to learn more about the whereabouts of a pic. And, of course, there is no workaround in that situation. So, the problem needs fixing ...

Working on it to get it fixed =)

May take some time though... EDIT: Next week is the current estimate.

Bei mir ist da kein Unterschied zwischen eigenen und den Bildern anderer. Die Karte erscheint erst mit Navigationsmöglichkeit, wenn man vorher den Vollbildmodus gewählt hat.

I went to see right now, I clicked on the little square on top right of the map and got the zoom tools.
Otherwise it works perfectly on mine now...

Then it is not working as it supposed to. The zoom buttons should appear right away. Moreover, see the full list of issues on caption.

Update: Turned out the "bug" is very selective. Some have reported using the exact same Chrome version and having no issues at all.

Next possibility: It may depend on the screen and browser window size??? The scripts often takes into account the display parameters.

My Chrome version is 68.0.3440.106 (Offizieller Build) (64-Bit),
OS is Windows 10 Home with build 17134.228.
I am using three monitors with 1920 * 1080 pixels

I get the error just as described.

Thank you Erhard. I added that and one of my computers on caption. To be honest, I have no idea how and where to get correct version information for OS.

For Windows: Open Powershell, type "winver", and you will get a pop-up with the OS information, along with copyright infos.

@ Everyone - Does at least the "temporary workaround" help?

Try to click Ctrl-+ and then back to normal size with Ctrl-0.

I keep on reminding our ima team about this every now and then. In case Rob for example manages to find a way to change that API. We would not want to pay Qwellcode to fix this yet, because this still is only a problem on Chrome.

aNNa just confirmed the Ctrl-+ and back with Ctrl-0 fixes the issue. But it is indeed a temporary solution. We are still working on this to get this finally fixed as soon as possible.

Hi Sami,

This problem has existed for some time. The workaround is simple, as you say above. Just make the map full screen, then the buttons re-appear. You can then shrink back to normal size.

Best Wishes, and a good weekend

The popup does not work with Firefox too. It's only possible to see, set or change geotags by "Organisieren" and "Lokalisieren", but not by clicking on the geotag in the right column.

Sami Serola (inactiv… club has replied to Berny club
That sounds like somewhat different issue than explained here.

I'll do some tests with Firefox next week.

A quick test on my Ubuntu laptop, and at least Firefox seemed to zoom somewhat too close. But there it worked on album view still.

I notice that this morning : when you are viewing a photo which is localised, the map appears but not the point with the photo. So I have to open Firefox to find the place .
