Keith Burton club has replied to Jaap van 't Veen clubKeith Burton club has replied to Roséha D. clubThe genus name sea holly (Latin eryngium, also iringium, is said to come from the use of field holly (Eryngium campestre) as an aphrodisiac and love magic root.
Another interpretation, meant in an ironic sense, refers to the flower heads that fall off when the seeds are ripe and are blown back and forth unsteadily by the wind. These are also called "steppe witches".
