Staunton Country Park, Havant, Hampshire (+PiP)

Staunton Country Park, Havant, Hampshire (+PiP)
Known locally as Leigh Park Gardens...............a huge country park which is around a 10 minute drive from my home. The weather was a bit hit and miss, but I managed to mostly avoid the rain showers, by dashing into the trees. The image in the PiP was taken around 20 minutes after this one and shows a wider view of the lake and the gathering clouds.

There is an interesting history of the park in the link below for anyone who might be interested:

Thanks David, I was only there for a couple of hours while my wife was out visiting a friend, but it gave me a chance to stretch my legs and get a few photos.

Love the main picture Keith. I'm pleased that the old dead trees are left there. They are very sculptural. Dark clouds are gathering in your PiP, but it doesn't matter, it's a great picture :-))
I'll follow your link now!

I enjoyed the link Keith. What a fascinating history and they have displayed the time line beautifully and easy to read. A shame the mansion was demolished, but what a lovely park to have nearby.

It's a lovely place Keith, and the PiP really shows it off to its perfection. That dark cloud was certainly coming in - in force. It looks very menacing indeed.

The park has had a very interesting history of ownership, Keith. It's a shame that the National Trust didn't get in there to save the mansion. There looks to be a fine set of waterlilies in the lake.
Have a great weekend.

Keith Burton club has replied to Amelia club
Thanks for commenting Amelia............you're right about its interesting history. I've been going there since I was a child and it brings back some great memories of family days out.

About a third of the lake is covered in water lilies at the moment.........not all are flowering yet though. Have a good weekend yourself.

Looks like a great park. Sometimes dark skies enhances the greens as we see here. Well done.

Do you have to pay to get in?

Thanks for sharing with our UK Landscape Photography Group , Herb

Keith Burton club has replied to Herb Riddle club
It's a really beautiful place Herb and I probably should go there more often. For me it brings back some great childhood memories of family days out, fishing with my Dad, climbing trees etc.

It's free to get in. The council don't like that and many years ago started charging and they were forced to stop after a court ruled they couldn't as it was left "for the people" free of charge for perpetuity. They've made up for that by charging a fortune to park nearby!

It's not apparent, but it's actually next to one of the largest council estates in Europe! It's a very deprived area in general and they really need this green space!

Thanks for commenting and glad you like it.

Thanks for this extra info Keith. Good that it is free but like many other free places they get you on the car parks. One would think then that public transport is the answer but I guess that may be either poor or none existent here. If not, then the people on those estates have some luck at least.

Keep cool in these hot days. Herb

The dead tree (it looks a bit like a scarecrow;-) anchors the main photo beautifully and serves to lead the eye into the photo. The waterlily lake is lovely!
Interesting history, that's a lot of different owners over the course of 200 years!

Thank you Wilhelm............there is an island in the middle and there used to be a summer house on there I think, but it's long gone. There is a nice bridge though and I'll try and post a photo of it at some stage.
