Herðubreið

Herðubreið
Herðubreið, the queen of Icelandic mountains - and seat of the gods (many believe this is the Asgard of the sagas).

Herðubreið is a 1682m high table mountain (tuya) which erupted under ice age glaciation. At the very top (here covered by cloud) is a crater and some basalt whch made it out of the ice.
The mountain with its steep and near symmetrical shape rises 1000m above the vast surrounding highland desert and is visible from afar.

Gewaltig ! Eindrucksvoll hast Du ihn festgehalten und der erste Gedanke den ich dabei hatte, war 'Ayers Rock' in Australien. Beide haben es mit 'Göttern' zu tun und stehen gewaltig und erhaben in einer Ebene.

Schönen Dank, Udo! Wenn ein Solitär -Berg sich so aus der Umgebung erhebt, hat das wohl schon immer zu Legenden geführt. Kailash in Tibet ist auch so einer, da wäre ich allzugerne mal hin, wird aber nix mehr....
