Melancholy ! The end of the season !

For me always a sad time, even more so when it co-incided with the return to school - often at the same time as the best weather all summer!

It's good to hear that you are walking further Andy, hopefully it won't rain until the crops have been harvested, some heavy downpours here but a wet winter will be needed to top up the reservoirs . Ulrich says melancholy but it many way it is not the end but the beginning

I'm not sure what's left to harvest, (maybe barley). Most of the grains have long been harvested There's a sort of equivalent to our Harvest Festival, but it's in May! Hardly anything ripens between June and April!
Reservoirs are only about 35% of capacity on average. Far more dire in some places. I remember the same thing in my first year in Spain. Madrid was only days away from water rationing when the heavens opened and it rained solidly for ages! I think Denis Howell retired to Spain and then his services were called upon! I don't suppose he's alive today but if he is, a call needs to go out to him!
And lastly, I agree with both Ulrich and you. Melancholy - yes, a little ... also upbeat because the splendour of autumn is before us. This hot and dry period at the tail end of summer actually heralds in a more interesting season on many fronts!

I'm glad to see that you are feeling more positive lately and are already planning a long walk to the Sierra de la Cabrera - great when you manage it. We've had a lot of rain this last week and it's gone much cooler too - it's only 18C now. I'd like it a tad warmer, but there you go. A beautiful image Andy and it sounds like you are really getting some serious walking in. I am pleased your are improving. I love the title. It has been a good summer but I do like Autumn, - cooler weather and glorious colours.

I love the contrast in this shot between the parched and dry, golden coloured foreground and that beautiful blue sky. It does look very hot though. Hopefully you'll get some rain soon.

First rains for months but only spitting, despite dark threatening clouds. Forecast is for lots more over the coming days at last! But when that does finally happen, I've got to work out how I'm going to complete my daily paces target!!

Such a beautiful wide open view

I have a friend who lived in the South Hams, a beautiful part of Devon. But it comprises small fields with high dry-stone walls, the roads all followed the line of ancient sunken 'holloways' and magnificent trees, all very large - she felt claustrophobic the whole time and so they only managed a year living there before they moved to the wide open spaces near Salisbury Plain.
Then she was much happier!
I think these shots remind me just a little bit of Salisbury Plain!
