Fires nearby
Best viewed large on black, the fires burning in the distance here were "controlled burns" - low intensity fires intentionally lit (usually alongside a road) to burn back toward the bushfire, with the intention of depriving the main fire of combustible material. In the PiPs 1/ a road block because of fires across the road further on 2/ bushfire smoke seen behind the "not very bustling" main street of our local township and 3/ suburban houses separated by forest from the fires.

At this point I cannot refrain from a dishonourable mention for our current Australian government, which was complicit in derailing the recent UN climate meeting in Madrid from taking strong action on climate change, which is exacerbating these weather-driven problems. Equally, for our glorious Prime Minister who has been near silent about the raging fires burning across our country and now has gone on holidays in Hawaii. (Look up #wherethebloodyhellareyou ).

Explored.

Politicians... they only pretend to care about people they should serve when it serves themselves first... but it is always like that, isn't it?
Great BW and interesting circumstancial PIPs.
How are you both doing? Your wife...?

Many thanks, Isabel. We're right for now, though the weather over the next few days could cause problems with the fires. My wife is again on extended oncology treatment following her operation, so rather weakened but feeling OK.

Terrific capture. Unfortunately govts like yours and mine have little incentive when other countries also get away with murder. For such legislation to work the same standards must and should be applied to each and every country without exception. We can only hope that one day climate change is viewed as the existential threat it is.

Thank you, William. It's a pity that so many major polluters see national self-interest as the highest priority. Even so, that does not excuse other countries from taking a more principled approach to the global future

A well documented series regarding these fires here. Your mention of your governments hand in the latest climate change talks rings a very clear bell George. In actual fact I was thinking of your very own plight when I astonishingly heard about your governments none-committal to those talks. Talk about burying your head in the sand! -and there I was, thinking our government was s.....

Many thanks, Herb. See my comment above to William. I see no valid excuse for any country to not do what it can on the issue of climate change. Take heart, you may not have the most [insert as appropriate] government, our current lot are worse.

Une capture trés révélatrice par sa forme et trés évocatrice dans son fond..La discorde qui règne entre tous les gouvernants s'apparente aux intérêts et non aux perturbations et au déréglement climatique.. Un sujet interesant.

Your comments on politicians cover them all. What a lot of low life we have in politics here, and as Xata said, none of them really care about the people they are supposed to serve. Hope they get these fires under control.

Thank you for sharing these images and information George, we get the impression that governments and big business both think they are exempt from having to change, they fly around the world with impunity then tell us we are ruining the world.
Trust all is well with you both.

What is happening worldwide is incredibly sad - we humans have certainly got a lot to answer for. I don't understand how these selfish, arrogant, egotistic, power hungry pieces of sh(one)t manage to get elected to govern. Previous civilisations have destroyed themselves through greed and corruption but at least they didn't take the rest of life on earth with them ...

Your images are well taken and bring back happy memories of the two occasions I've visited NSW - so thank you.
Hope you and your family remain safe.

Echoing everyone's words ... it's so disheartening to see leaders not just in the US but in Australia, Great Britain, and other places act purely on behalf of short-term greed and against the long-term sustainability of this world. Someone, they think their children and grandchildren will escape the consequences. It all feels like complete insanity to me. But so it goes ...

Keep safe George. Will ring you early New Year from Canberra.
Today was 45 here, tomorrow 46, and catastrophic fire conditions.
I wish a large shark would eat ScuMo in Hawaii. This government makes me sick....I am heartbroken for our country and for all of us who have always believed the science, and have had to put up with this ignorant mob of cretins who only care about fossil fuel and profits for their mates. Their continuing inaction is wilfully negligent and criminal...locally and globally.
Big hugs xxx

Hi George

A nice set of picture to remember the events!

Like it or not, fires have been burning in the bush for many millions of years. Natures way of clearing the rubbish! Shame it affects people too.

Best Wishes, and a good weekend
Peter

tiabunna club has replied to Peter_Private_Box club
Thanks, Peter. Yes, Australia always has had fires from time to time and we expect that. The difference is that these are unprecedented in extent, in the extended length of the fire season, and that they've entered areas such as rainforest that have never previously burned. Add in repeated days of record high temperatures and we're in a new paradigm.

Thank you, everyone. There has been a cooler weather change around the coast, in the area of most of the fires, and that will hopefully help reduce the problems over coming days. Unfortunately the extent of the fires means that only widespread and extended rain will put them out, so we can expect this to continue for some time.
