Lilly Pilly flowers

Lilly Pilly flowers
Our Lilly Pilly shrubs (Acmena smithii) are flowering and attracting honey bees and native bees (see note). These bushes are an Australian native, originally from east coast rainforests but now very popular in gardens.

Beautiful image. I can see why they are popular in gardens. Lovely to see the native bee too.

Oh, how beautiful! Those flowers are very pretty--I've seen ?bottlebrush? bushes but not this kind. They must smell lovely! I wouldn't have noticed the native bee had you not pointed it out! :D Seems like the honey bee is quite a bit larger?

Glad you liked the resin droplet pictures, they really were a gift to find. And yes, it's just so easy to fall into the run from point a to point b travel strategy. Your desire to slow down and see more sounds like a good idea and makes me wonder, "How many cool places have we driven past a million times and will never actually see because it never occurred to us there was something interesting here?"

The difference in size between honey bees and native bees is fascinating. A great shot with fantastic details!

Wonderful flowers and gorgeous photo. Have friends in Brisbane who have native bees. Apparently they don't produce a lot of honey.
