Sherborne Lane ~ Lyme Regis.

Sherborne Lane ~ Lyme Regis.
I thought I knew all of Lyme Regis but my daughter showed me this long and steep lane that leads to the Town Mill, with pretty little cottages lining the lane with their flower filled front gardens. It is at the top of the main street and I had never noticed the narrow opening before.

DSC 9886

DSC 9891

This path also leads to the Town Mill, along the River Lim

I love the juxtaposition of the slated roof and the thatched roof, Rosa. The red flowers add lovely focal points.

Of course, I know Town Mill thanks to John Sargent.

Cheers,

Joe

Thank you Joe. What isn't so clear here is the way the thatch followed the line of the hill, as did the top of the window, but but everything else was straight!

Ah yes, I enjoyed the series very much. Last year I took Sophie on a guided tour of the mill, where flour is still made, as you will know! The rest of the mill and the area around it is very vibrant with lots to see and plenty to drink. LOL!

Cheers, Rosa.

Did you buy some flour from the mill?
Rosalyn Hilborne club has replied to Joe, Son of the Rock club
I did Joe. I don't normally use wholemeal flour, so had to find some new recipes, which were mostly successful. I did buy some bread there made from their flour and that was delicious.

Pretty Village scene Rosalyn, not often we see shuttered windows these days.

Rosalyn Hilborne club has replied to HappySnapper
Thank you Maurice. I would think they are more decorative shutters than anything else. I used to live in a house with internal shutters. I liked them...except when there was a big spider hiding behind them ;-))

What a pretty part of the village...........the cottages and their lush gardens look gorgeous in the sunshine and the hill makes a magnificent backdrop.

Two more cracking photos in the PiPs. All beautifully captured.

Have you looked at the Lyme Regis website lately Rosa? The have a photo gallery, part of which is devoted to vintage photos. There's a couple of this lane and one that pretty much matches your second PiP.......it's called the Mill Race. Lot's more places to explore they methinks!

Rosalyn Hilborne club has replied to Keith Burton club
Thank you for the great link Keith. You can see how narrow parts of Sherborne Lane is from those old pictures. I'll definitely keep an eye on that website. I have often walked along Mill Race and there is water either side...but it doesn't have the slope and wind of The Cobb :-) It's one of my favourite parts of the town. I must get a photo of Umbrella Cottage!

Thank you very much for your kind comments. Have a nice evening.

There's obviously a lot more to Lyme than the Cobb. Thank you for showing it to us. The cottages are lovely. All different but blending harmoniously with lovely colourful gardens. It's wonderful how long the lane has been there.
Rosalyn Hilborne club has replied to Jean
Yes there is Jean, and I'm still finding it! A late auntie used to have a chalet in Lyme with a view of The Cobb where I would take the girls for a week in the summer school holidays and at weekends. I do miss that. Many thanks for your kind comments.

Me gustan las encinas de su monte, las antiguas casas apretadas y embellecidas con flores, donde el rojo es el color alegre; buen reportaje. Cuídate; el virus se está rearmando.

Thank you for your kind comments Jose. There must have been about 30 cottages along that side of the lane on the steep hill. All very pretty and well maintained. Thank you for your kind comments. You take care too.

You do live in a lovely area, Rosa. First I was reminded of Venice with the little bridge. Now I am reminded of France with the shuttered windows in the PiP, and of course the best of England with the gardens
