Buddle Bridge ~ Lyme Regis.

Buddle Bridge ~ Lyme Regis.
The window on the left is a dining room in The Rockpoint Inn, where my two daughters took me for a delicious meal. The PiP's are of the views we had from our window seat.
Buddle Bridge is Grade I Listed and was built in the 14th century. It carries Bridge Street over the River Lym as it flows out into the sea. It is of local stone rubble dressed with the same material, the segmental-pointed arch has a span of 18 ft. The soffit, or underarch, originally comprised four chamfered ribs but two have been removed, and the road was widened on both sides in 1913. The stone parapet includes a delightful quatrefoil design.

Looks like an ideal place to treat "Mum" and I am pleased you enjoyed it. I thought for a moment this was a copy of the "Bridge of Sighs", but obviously not as I think probably earlier than that.

They treated me for my birthday Maurice. It was my choice to visit Lyme and I always have to stop and look at this lovely bridge. Hope you have a good new week.

I was wondering why this area looked so familiar to me. I have just remembered. This part of the River Lym was featured in the BBC programme, Britain's First Photo Album, which was introduced by John Sergeant.

You tend not to even notice the bridge along the main street but get a good view of it from the promenade. Thank you for your kind comments.

Bonito sitio, buen día vivido y, lo mejor, la compañía de tus dos hijas deseosas de tu bienestar. Está claro de dónde le viene el nombre de Rockpoint, viendo su base.

Thank you for your kind comments Jose. The girls know how much I like the bridge and the sea, so they made sure to reserve a window seat, where I could see both. They're good girls ;-))

A wonderful bridge it says much for it's construction that in it's long life it has not been damaged by a flood I know the river looks harmless there, I'm pleased you enjoyed your meal Rosalyn

Who needs Venice when Lyme Regis has it's treasures. It's lovely to think of it's age, how it's survived and what it has seen. The Rockpoint Inn looks a lovely place for lunch. Nice to think of the three of you enjoying a good meal together.

Beautiful images and interesting notes, Rosa. It does indeed look a great place to enjoy a meal with your daughters. I was interested that the signwriting on the window is facing inward, presumably so that it isn't reversed in photos such as yours.
Rosalyn Hilborne club has replied to tiabunna club
Thank you George. Yes it is unusual to have the writing on the window inwards. I suppose because it is hardly visible from the outside. The sides and front of the building is quite a deep blue and the name of the Inn is written large on it.

How beautiful............the light has brought out some lovely colours and detail in the stonework. I love the bridge. What a great place for a birthday treat..!!

I like the shots taken from the inside as well - the view out to see looks quite magnificent and it's good to see people out enjoying themselves.

Super work Rosa.............and I glad you had a good day with your family! Take care :-)

I love this old bridge Nouchet. Across the road and nearer to the restored mill, you feel the age more as there is another bridge, but not quite as magnificent as this one.
