Cranmore ~ East Somerset Railway

Cranmore ~ East Somerset Railway
They are closed until March but when open they are one of very few steam railways where you can visit the engine shed and workshop. There is also a small museum, signal box, miniature railway, shop and café.

The cast-iron urinal/pissoir at the station and the message inside! I had better add that it is no longer in use!

Lovely colour and an interesting series. I like the dual purpose phone box. The urinal is considerably more discreet than the circular ones they had in Paris. And I remember our shock when we had to go through the gents loo in the cinema to get to the womens one.

I remember them in Paris back in the 1970's :)
Thank you for your kind comments on the series Jean.

You really don't want me to describe the loos in some of the more out-of-the-way places in Spain! They make the facilities in the Paris of the 60s amd even 70s seem luxurious by comparison!

OK I'll pass on that then Andy :) In Malta we were handed the toilet paper by a lady sat just inside the entrance!

Good morning Rosalyn, a wonderful set of images, a rather long wait for a train !! the Great Central operates all year, the Gents at Birmingham's Moor Street have that notice, hopefully the litter bins are temporary until they find some period ones. I hope you have a good day, the frost is going it should be a nice day
5 years ago.
Rosalyn Hilborne club has replied to Peter Castell club
Good morning Peter. Thought it best not to wait ;-)) I expect changing the litter bins would be down to finance, with them being a private company. It would be a good move though. I was hoping their shop might have been open, but it wasn't. Yes, nice day here too. Picking my granddaughter up from school late :) Have a nice day yourself.

Thank you George. There are a lot of stations like this in the south west, being privately owned and very popular, especially the steam trains.

This is really lovely Rosa...............the "just before the storm" light is absolutely beautiful. I especially like the period lamps and the Pirelli sign on the fence.

I don't think I've ever seen such a dual-use telephone box..............it's quite delightful.

I I love the urinal (I never thought I'd ever say that phrase)..........it's beautifully ornate and probably unique!

Rosalyn Hilborne club has replied to Keith Burton club
I agree, always a lovely light before the storm Keith. This is the first dual box I have seen as well.

Ha ha, I never thought I would find one so interesting ;-) There used to be one in the recreation ground where I came from in Dorset, but unfortunately they demolished it some years ago. Mind you, it was a bit smelly!

I have some more pic's of the metal signs. I'll get them together soon.
Thanks for all your great comments.

Hi Rosa,

A great series of pictures, especially the red box. I have never see the like before.
The notice is quite common on the old railways though...
As for the picture, it is wonderful light, which highlights the rusty rails and moss covered platform very well. A beautiful picture! (And a railway I have not visited..)

Best Wishes
Peter

PS, looking closely I think someone needs to clear the vegetation from in front of the signal too!

Hi Peter,

The first time I had seen a red box like this. I had been there once before but don't remember it from then....someone must have be standing in front of it ;-))

I am wondering if they give it a good clean up and paint before they open for the season. It does need it. Thanks for your great comments.

Best wishes,
Rosa.

Hello Rosa i agree a lovely series of shots indeed from the Station .. i agree with Peters observation of the signal but my worry would be damage to those lovely old station lamps by the tree branches on a windy day .. Perhaps Nick will mention it on his visit :))

Best wishes ... Steve

Rosalyn Hilborne club has replied to Ste
Hi Steve, I'll have to take notice next time I am there, but I think the tree was between the lamp posts. I can't wait to see Nick's pictures from the station. I have never been on one of their trains but I hope to this year. Thanks for your kind comments.

Best wishes, Rosa.
