A compelling shot. I'm at a loss to say why it works, but it does - and not just because it's a clever self-portrait. The dull color scheme is just what it deserves. The large area of tan wall in contrast to the almost offhand vision of a soulless-modern building must have a message or several messages for us, but I won't trivialize the shot by offering any.

Thanks, Bob. I was interested in the message conveyed by my seeming to be praying.

Thank you very much, Jean. The secret, though, is to walk by the same places over and over. This is on my way to the subway, so since I took up photography in '08 I've walked by it thousands of times. So I finally had a brainwave today.

If you were praying for a shot that would have both Bob and I at a loss for words why this is photograph is both compelling and confounding, your prayer was answered.
I would however venture to say that the glimpse of the photographer in action is the charm.

Dans la composition complexe de cette image, dont la profondeur de champ est parfaitement maîtrisée, le photographe, présent, témoigne de la solitude de cette ville engourdie dans la grisaille d'un hiver qui n'en finit pas....

Thank you very much, Robert. Engourdi is the perfect word, too, for what winter does to you, especially a harsh one.

Are you praying for the snow to stop John!

To be honest I didn't really look too much at the background...............i was more interested in what appeared initially, to be a large television on the right hand side of the shot.

It turns out that you are the star of the show! A very unusual, but compelling selfie my friend!

Thank you very much, Keith. This is supposed to be our last snowfall of the year, but you never know.

I look like a priest, t00, eh?I have another selfie taken in that mirror when it was covered in ice; Maybe I'll upload that, too, for comparison.

Thanks, Stoker. I took an updated shot today, but without the snow it seemed less interesting to me.
