Near our climbing hut. We booked this place a few times in the late 70s from the Junior Mountaineering Club of Scotland (JMCS) and had some terrific times here, especially on the Cuillin Ridge.
A scanned slide from a series of slides that had become somewhat degraded. Most were useless, a few, such as this, still had a little merit in them so I decided to post.

Gudrun, Martine, Maeluk, Roger Dodger and 29 other people have particularly liked this photo

Wonderful shot, great perspective -----> I understand the problem you have with slides Andy, when I moved here from England, I lost so many slides due to the damp conditions I lived in, a lifetimes work gone forever.

Yes, John. A bit of a bummer, to say the least!

A lovely old image Andy and obviously full of memories. Shocked though to read what you had to say about slides degrading, call me ignorant, but I never knew they were likely to do so ... better dig out the ones I have up in the loft from the Eighties and check them out! ;)

I feel more detail is required, Paul.
And think I can re-assure you!
I fear it may have been partly my fault and partly poor circumstances surroundong storage, rather than any intrinsic issues with the slides themselves.
I seem to have left them in their plastic boxes buf the lids had come half off, exposing them to the elements. Cornwall is a notoriously damp part of the world and I only spent about 2 weeks, every 2 years in my room and then in summer. So it was never heated in the winter. My room was (is) situated under the roof - a converted attic. It is also a 'flying freehold' which means it extends over the neighbouring property. They had a coal fire until very recently and the smoke used to escape straight into my bedroom in winter. It seems that the damp + smoke particles attached themselves to the slides and ate into them, accounting for the blotches and speckles on many of them and much worse on others. A few escaped relatively unharmed.
That's my best guess!
So, unless you have these adverse conditions or similar, I bet your slides are quite safe!!
:o)
Best wishes,
Andy
