It's been a gorgeously warm day today with wall to wall blue sky and sun, and if you got out of the wind, it was gloriously warm too. I had to go shopping today with my neighbour, but I still managed to take a couple of photos of Pippin snoozing away on his cushion. Why he wasn't sleeping outside in the sun is beyond me........... Then after I'd been out, having gone at a different time than normal - never again!!!!!! Between the hours of 2 and 3pm is horrendous - all the old peop…

  • Another part of our coastline has fallen into the sea

    - 01 May 2013 - 2 comments
Just seen that the coastline in the county next to mine - Dorset, has fallen into the sea. This is quite a dramatic fall, and luckily it happened during the night and hopefully no-one was on the beach or on the coast path when it happened. It was discovered at 8am and they are still seeing if anyone or anything is buried in the fall. It's very scary isn't it? We have lost so much of our coastline this last year, due mostly to the amount of rain we've had which has undermined the soil. S…

  • Something you may not have known ............

When people ask what you learned today ... Manure : In the 16th and 17th centuries, everything had to be transported by ship. It was also before the invention of commercial fertilizers, so large shipments of manure were quite common. It was shipped dry, because in dry form it weighed a lot less than when wet, but once water (at sea) hit it, not only did it become heavier, but the process of fermentation began, of which a by-product is methane gas. As the stuff was stored below decks…

  • I almost put my back out...........

    - 28 Apr 2013 - 6 comments
Well some of the UK has had rain over the last couple of weeks, but my tiny bit of the south west has avoided any. I've seen the dark clouds coming ominously closer and closer, but then some kind wind drove them away and so they could deposit their load on someone else. This is great except........... it's dry for the flowers in the pots. We've been threatened with rain for the last couple of days and nothing - nada - zero. So I dug around and after some upheaval and ousting some snails etc…

  • This is absolutely ridiculous.............

A supermarket chain, which has stores across the North West, has withdrawn bags of nuts from sale because they contain nuts. Booths decided to pull its Whole Hearted Roasted Monkey Nuts from the aisles because its label does not declare it contains peanuts. The firm has stores in Lancashire, Cumbria, Yorkshire, Cheshire, and a recently-opened branch at MediaCityUK in Salford. A spokesman for the company said: "Booths is withdrawing some batches of its Whole Hearted Roasted Monkey Nuts,…

The rocks on the beach stretch out to the sea
Oh boy this certainly stretched my little brain box somewhat................ Well to try and find some different pictures for you all............... So here is my contribution to this week's theme........ The rocks here stretch out to the sea............. The view stretches out to the horizon from the window of the plane.............. Pippin is stretching in all directions here................... Tippi isn't being terribly elegant here, but she is stretching................…

  • Gorgeous cherry blossom out

Cherry blossom starting to come out
The weather was great - blue sky and sun, but damn that wind was like a cheese wire!!!!!!!!!! It was so bitterly cold, but if you got out of the north easterly and could find the sun, it was a lovely day. I noticed this morning that the cherry blossom had just started to come out, so I got my camera out and my trusty garden chair............ It does look so lovely against the blue sky, but just then the sun had decided to dip so no bright colours................. Hey the sun came out - i…

  • My neighbours' garden is so gorgeous

Ann & Peter's garden is definitely a spring garden. The flowers are just so beautiful and as for the primroses - there are hundreds of them. Between you and me - I swear they've been over to my garden and dug some of mine up!!!! But don't tell them I think this. The sun came out this afternoon - not for long mind you - and I just had to take some photos of their garden to show you. As you can see the primroses are just everywhere - that gate leads into my garden/house. They very kindly…

  • You've got to picture this in your mind.......

    - 25 Apr 2013 - 1 comment
To appreciate this joke, you need to be able to picture the event as you are reading it. A little boy blows up a balloon and starts flicking it all around the house with his finger. His mother tells him to stop it as he's liable to break something, but the boy continues. 'Johnny!' Mom screams. 'Knock it off.' You're going to break something. He stops and eventually Mom leaves for a short trip to the shopping centre. Johnny starts up with the balloon again after his mom has left for the…

    Looking good
She arrived this morning all brown and it wasn't from rust!!!!!!!!!! After I'd hissed and booed, I really had to admire the wonderful colour she was............ She's looking good and just see that colour of her arms!!!!!!! Makes you want to spit doesn't it?? This is a little present her hubby Dogan had bought her for her birthday, which was in January. Apparently she likes being called Amanda now she's getting older. Okay - after 42 years I'm going to have to remember to call her…

    Tippi's intense gaze
Well Summer has brought this very intense theme..... my poor brain cells were strained to their limits to think of what to put here - thanks Summer!!! This is Tippi looking very intensely at something in the garden........... and then I can see she'd spotted something in the trees judging by this intense gaze..... Of course Pippin had to get in on the act........ Then Roxy & Pippin had spotted some birds in the garden which gave them something to concentrate on.............…

  • Some more of my tulips have opened as have the bluebells

The tulips in my driveway are starting to come out..... Then I noticed some bluebells peeking out along the banks of the driveway....... The little primroses have found a way of growing in the pot next to a small tulip - how I just don't know because I didn't plant it there..... It's so lovely seeing colour at last in the garden and feeling the warm sun on my skin. Great time - this is and always has been - my favourite time of the year.

  • Spring has actually arrived here - well today anyway!

The weather has been wonderful today. Blue skies, light winds and sun!! Bliss. It was warm all day, to the fact that I actually had the lounge window open all day. So now my house has been aired out for the first time since October. That's 6 months of cold and wet weather, no wonder we Brits talk about it all the time! So I decided to give the grass it's first cut this year. So armed with new plastic cutters and a chair, I started to cut the grass. As I'm not too good on my feet, I need to si…

  • It was a beautiful day yesterday - today - NOT!!!!

    A truly springtime garden
You'd never have known that yesterday was a lovely warm sunny day by looking out the window today!! It's overcast and the wind is very strong. It's gone back to being cold again, so that's a bummer. I was going shopping today and so I had to scramble my way through the gate in the fence to get to my neighbour's house to go shopping. Her garden was looking a picture - so full of primroses, it's unbelievable..... and so many daffodils too. I just had to take photos of it. You can…

  • We've actually got into double figures today!!!

Lovely orange tulip unfurling it's petals
Well today the temperatures actually reached double figures!!! I think we hit the heady heights of 11C. So inbetween the showers - see we can't have mild weather without a down side - rain!!! - I went out and sowed some wild flowers in the banks. I wanted to fill in the banks on the driveway with shade loving wild flowers, and today seemed a good day to do it. Now hopefully I should have some lovely flowers just right for the bees and butterflies. I also took advantage and looked at my pots i…

  • Mandi is back from Turkey

    - 14 Apr 2013 - 2 comments
Mandi has just rung me and it was wonderful hearing her voice again after a two week lapse. She is apparently lovely and brown (hiss - boo - hiss!!!!), she's more in love with her hubby now than before, if that had been possible. They were going to go to Izmir - a town not too far from where they were, well at least only a 4 hour coach drive, to go to the Consulate to apply for a visa. Luckily they double checked, despite the fact that they had enquired a week prior, and found out that the Consu…

Hoar frost on a tarpaulin looks brilliant in the sun
Well today's theme is a good one - it's making my little grey cells work overtime and the poor little things are still recovering from last time!!!!!!!! So my contribution may not be to everyone's idea for today's theme, but it's the best I can do!!! Hoar frost on a tarpaulin in the sunshine makes it look brilliant. The raindrops on this fir leaf are brilliant.…
