I'm sure you are all aware of the horrendous fires that are scorching the earth and areas around the southern parts of Turkey. As you also might remember, my daughter lives in that area. She contacted me to tell me that she's okay but the fires have done an awful amount of damage to the beautiful forests near her. The nearest fire is about 3kms from her home, but luckily there aren't any trees near her home, but she's totally drenched the area around the house and also the house itself, just…

The bush of the Spirea has grown....
Well today has been an incredibly hot day - such a contrast to what it's been like up til now. I thought it would be more sensible to go out in the morning to look at the driveway, while it wasn't so hot - er no!!!!! It must have been close to 28-29C!!!! If that was the morning temperatures - I'm really glad I didn't go out in the afternoon - it must have been around 30F which is very rare in the UK. I know you all in the US have had incredible heatwaves, but that is something we don't suffer f…

  • Gorgeous day so went for a stroll in the garden...

    The purple loosestrife is abundant
Well folks - it was an absolutely gorgeous day today - with high temperatures in the high 20'sC - such a change from the weather we've had lately. At least we haven't had the horrendous rain that Germany, Belgium and the Netherlands have had, nor so hot like the west coast of the USA - our land may be small, but at least we have been fortunate not to have the extremes others seem to have had. Well I decided to have a stroll around the top garden, because the baby seagull has now flown the "ne…

    The bush
Even though I haven't actually planted any of these flowers/bushes etc, this garden just keeps on giving. Maybe it's because I don't interfere with the nature nor put down weedkiller etc that gives the plants freedom to grow wherever they want to. The Himalayan Honeysuckle which is self sown, has become a large bush now - approximately 8 feet high!!!.... The flowers are so pretty and they all seem to be this four piece layered sort of bloom. It didn't take it long to change from just…

  • Just a quickie - not done much really

    Pendants made on 25.6.21
Hiya folks, I realised that it had been 12 days or so since I last wrote to you all - sorry!!! As I don't do much really and certainly don't go anywhere, there's very little to talk about (well not some things I wouldn't like to confess to anyway!!!!) We have had a few days with sun, but not really warm enough to sit outside for long. What on earth is going on with this weather - it looks lovely and sunny, but it keeps bringing cold winds with it. So I still sit down and make more and more penda…

  • My hoya is growing all over the place.....

The myriad of flowers on the hoya
I have this plant in my lounge, which I've shown you before. When I moved in here in 1999, I found it in the fireplace in my lounge and it looked exceedingly sad and drooped. So I transferred it into another pot and took it upstairs into my bedroom, put it in front of the window and gave it a stern warning - flowers please soon, or else I'll have to plant you outside!!!!! LOL Well two years later it gave me about 4 flowers, but it was a smallish plant, so 4 was a good amount. Over the years…

  • Today is Mickey's birthday.....

Mickey and his son, Stephen and daughter, Ellen
Today, June 17th, is our friend Mickey's birthday. He's been my best mate for a very long time now - around 12 years, and we talk every day on Skype. I don't know what I'd have done without his friendship over these years and I value him so highly. So happy birthday Mickey, have a wonderful day, which I'm sure you will with your family around you. Thank you for your wonderful friendship. xx

    Parent seagull warning me
Just a quickie. These last couple of days, there have been two seagulls constantly squawking from the roof of next door every time I or someone else came near the kitchen door. Well this morning I found out why....... I went out to talk to them this morning and they did their usual bah-bah-bah which I've always interpreted to mean a warning of danger. I used to hear it constantly when their little chicks had fallen off the roof and were walking about on the porch roof. Like a chatter to t…

  • Well I've been busy but it's been wonderful

    The last of the laburnum
To try and explain my title to this blog, is to say that - I've been busy making more pedants but also I had a fantastic visit from my son and his family. Oh it was absolutely amazing - I had hugs for the first time in almost 2 years!!!! I hadn't realised how much I missed the physical part of seeing family. I see my daughter on Messenger most days, but to actually have my son and grandchildren in the same room as me was wonderful. My granddaughter has grown so much - she's almost my height and…

    Moon through the window 25.5.21
At long last a warm and sunny day!!! It's been a glorious day with blue sky and the odd tiny cloud skudding across the sky. I had the lounge window open all day which was fantastic. Last night I could see a wonderful full moon so that sort of gave me a clue that today would be a good day.... I know it's not crystal clear etc. but I couldn't go out to take the picture, so this is from my couch. I'd ordered some plates for the resin pendants to be on, but I misunderstood the sizing!!!!…

  • Emily is back!!!! Yipee!!

The gold leaf with yellow and pale pink flowers
Oh boy am I happy bunny - Emily felt so sorry for me, that she came over for a couple of hours this afternoon. She's going to come every Tuesday afternoon, and it'll be back to normal. My other lady, Emma, only came that once, because she found herself not feeling too good with her M.E. and it would be wrong to feel annoyed, when she's obviously suffering. It's just that (a) I missed Emily and (b) I need to be able to rely on someone coming every week. Emma was supposed to come last Thursday, sh…

  • I've had my hair cut!!!!!!

    A simple design, but effective
Woweee!!! After almost 18months, I've at last had my hair cut. I can hardly believe it. I won't have to wear a hair grip, or suchlike again. Oh I feel so much better. I had to walk through a large shop to the back where the hairdressers are situated, and it wasn't until I browsed some shelves where they were selling petunias, that I realised it was close on 2 years since I last went into a shop!!! I have seen pictures of those markings on the floor, with footprints on them, signs saying "this…

  • I walked up the driveway today!!!!

The centre of the drive is full of flowers
Hiya folks, well these past couple of days have been quite fulfilling really. As you all probably know - the weather, despite it being May - has been really cold. Now living down here in the South West, the weather seems to be slightly different from other parts of the country. Today has been a gloriously sunny day, but boy was there a bitter wind. Yet I saw on the web cams, in other parts of the country it was raining and very windy, for such a small country (compared to the larger countries) i…

  • Wow - this warm weather has been very welcome.....

    The beautiful white lilac
As you all in the UK are aware, we have had some amazingly sunny days lately and even some warmth too - which is oh so welcome. Apparently we can expect some rain this coming week, which isn't very good, but I suppose that it is necessary for the plants etc. My bluebells are thriving on the driveway - a sea of blue, a visitor called it, all made possible because I don't drive a car over it now, because the car is well and truly done with, I swear it's growing on the drive!!!!! There are flowery…

Some of the cherry blossom still on the tree
Hiya folks, at long long last, we had a warm day here in the South West - one of the first since last year!!!! Woweeee - there was a slight breeze but the sun was shining and the sky was blue - beautiful. It was so lovely to have the lounge window open nearly all day!!!! I actually walked out to see the bluebells growing in the driveway and the lilacs are almost out. Then I was being a bride!!!! Lots and lots of blossom petals were falling all over me! Of course my cherry blossom has been out f…

  • Spring has arrived but with the temps of the Arctic!!!

    New blossom on cherry tree.
Well folks, the weather is playing with us. We've already done the "Spring forward" hour with our clocks a few weeks ago. Two weeks ago it was warm and Emily actually did the first grass cut of this year and I left the window open for a while because it was so warm. Now further along the month and you'd be okay to assume that the temperatures would be going up - er no such luck!!!! I realise that Europe as well as here in the UK have been subjected to horrendously cold weather. Snow and hail and…

  • I think Spring has arrived...

The annual primroses and polyanthus, come out without fail.
But I won't hold my breath!!!! The way the weather has been carrying on lately - one minute icy cold and then warm, then icy again - no wonder some people come down with colds. Well tomorrow I am having my second vaccine jab for COVID19. I was fine after my first one, so I should be fine with this one. Well this last week has been really good for temperatures - and sun - oh yes we've had some of that yellow stuff too. Well last week, I managed to walk up my driveway with the help of my neigh…

  • Sorry for my absence folks....

    Cat who comes for food.
Hiya folks, sorry I've been so lax in both answering your blogs and photos and also letting you know what's been going on in my part of the world. As you know - I was taken into hospital again!! Apparently in their haste to rid me of the fluid around my heart, I lost so much that I endangered my kidneys!!! So I had to go into hospital to have the proper balance worked out. I can add that I'm fine now, but because my medications were changed three times inside a month, they totally disagreed w…
