My method is to have a link to my Ipernity pages within my signature or as my "homepage" in my profile, when permitted by the forum rules.

People see the signature, and may then be aware of Ipernity.

When appropriate, I'll make reference to Ipernity in my posts. Not too often, in case I get accused of spamming ...

I intend to continue using Blipfoto, the user owned daily photo journal site and as I have done on occasions will reference Ipernity and occasionally link to my photos here.

I have two relatives that I mention Ipernity to and a near neighbour has started to look at my photos and I think he just needs a nudge to start using it. I intend buying them accounts as thank you and or Christmas presents.

it may have a small impact but there will be other opportunities on Twitter.

Every little bit helps! And even if your friends don't keep using ipernity, they will then have experienced it and may mention it to someone they know. And the beat goes on...

I for one use to publish reduced versions of my pictures on Diaspora*, with the right tags there (#photo, etc.) and a link to the fullsizes here on ipernity.
Writing this I get the idea of adding an #ipernity tag, too.

I think most of us can do the same with whatever social network we use.

On Diaspora at least, I see many people follow the links when they are interested by something, specially if it is a better version of a picture.
Of course this works even better if your pics here are free to download.

Incidentally, but I don't really know the details here, I am not sure that when an external visitor lands on one of our pages s/he actually see the fullsizes now (while I think it was the case before).
If this is correct then it would be interesting to underline, atn that very place, that a simple free minimal registration allows to get to fullsizes, immediately.
Demanding exploration to discover larger sizes after registration means only 1% of the visitors will even try it.
(I don't know if that part should be posted elsewhere in the forums...)

In response to suggestions, i have posted the following message both on my public Facebook page and to a local photographers' Forum:
I wonder if any of you have heard of, or use Ipernity (Ipernity.com) for your image collection? When Google scrapped Panoramio and Flickr seemed to be heading for a teenage hangout for snappers, a number of photographers, myself included - as Coldwaterjohn, who had been using these sites, found Ipernity. It is an advert-free site whose maintenance is handled by a number of its members. Within it there are groups for almost every interest from all over the world. Do take a look at it, if you haven't already heard of it!

Coldwaterjohn club has added
Already a member of the local photographers' group has replied. He had tried Ipernity but reverted to Flickr as he found he received more views there. With our limited membership base that is scarcely surprising...he wrote:
"When Flickr changed their model a few years ago i switched to ipernity...kept free version of flickr... Stayed there a while... Cancelled ipernity after a year or 2...nice community but wasnt getting same views as flickr... Now i pay for a flickr subscription... A handy way to keep a public record of my work:)"

Disappointing, but definitely good to know.

But what actually is causes less views can be difficult to figure out. The reasons are many:

- Less users at ipernity in general.
- Less contacts because a new member. If one has already been at Flickr for years, it would take time and effort to gain the same network at the new place.
- Visibility on global search engines to get visibility and publicity outside ipernity. One should/could test this by coming up with some rather unique keyword, use it for a pretty long time, and see how the images on different services become indexed by global search engines.
- Technical reasons. There can be something that makes one more popular (easy to become popular) at Flickr than at ipernity.

Coldwaterjohn club has replied to Sami Serola (inactiv… club
It needs to be recognised that Flickr as of March 2013 had about 87 million (Yes, Million!) registered members and 3.5 Million new images uploaded daily, with more than 6 Billion images (as of 2011). If what you are after are just viewings and a wider audience, we are comparing apples to oranges; we are merely mosquitoes in a world of Pterodactyls!
StoneRoad2013 club has replied to Coldwaterjohn club
The discussion about view counts has been going for a long time.
At one point - I think this was in 2013 - even the owners', repeated, visits to images were counted (at least, mine were, when I tested this as a Premium member and could see the statistics). Also counted were scroll pasts on the photostream, rather than the more accurate "click to open" visits.
Therefore, the comparison is chalk and cheese.

I prefer the seemingly more meaningful interactions here.

I am based on Ipernity, but use the Microblog Instagram. But to use Insta you need mobiles or Facebook as relais to share stuff on Instagram.
I know fellows from here as Follower on Insta.
But Insta is very colorful and as easy in use it might be hard to interrest people on Ipernity.
I am to tired to do, but think about to tell my story...

raingirl club has replied to Eike Biel club
It would be great if you would tell your story.

For us here at ipernity, posting on instagram is a way to get our name out into the world. Name recognition is very important and since instagram gets seen by many, it is helpful.

Do you have your ipernity webpage listed in your bio page on instagram? They allow for that. That would also be helpful.

I have just changed the slogan on both Linkedin sites to: Ipernity, the probably largest non-commercial online photo club in the world.

I also noticed that they indicate a different number of users: "more than 20,000 active registered users worldwide" on the company site and "more than 10,000 active registered users worldwide" on the ima site. Please advise on a figure to be used on both sites.

The banner on the company site contains a part of the old slogan:

We are lagging behind with the updates.
Please use the following wording:
Almost 10.000 registered users.

The reason for the decline is that we have been sweeping rigorously for 12 months now.

Therefore, the figures of the competitors should also be treated with caution. For example, I myself have accounts with both Flickr and Fotocommunity, although I don't use them. I am certain that if all competitors were to comply with the EU General Data Protection Regulation requirements regarding data minimization, their figures would only be a fraction of what they publish.

The "not secure" warning at the top of the page puts some people off using Ipernity,
as well as the lower view counts and (some say) poorer image quality.

The view counts are falsely enhanced on Flickr, whereas Ipernity views are probably understated, the reason being that people can look at a member's stream on the large size display without needing to click on individual images, and hence it doesn't count as a view.

This doesn't matter to me, but some folk like having their egos stroked!

I believe that fixing the "not secure" warning is near if not at the top of the programming list. Unfortunately it needs to be done out of house (Rob can't do it), otherwise it would already be done!

Gute Fotos, aktuelle Fakten, aufgeschlossene Leute.

Tell your story"

Instagram is in these discussions under 10. Photo sharing communities. Would you please place your comment here over on that discussion? Very helpful information and it would be good to keep it together with other conversations about instagram.

The instagram official ipernity account is not accessible to us right now. We are working on gaining access. So it is old. I'm suggesting that we open a new account titled 'ipernity photo club'. I'm having a hard time keeping track of where the notes on that are, but like I said, please add your comment here to discussion 10.

When people share images here for advertising, the best would be to publish them under free use. So, we all need not to worry about using copyright protected images to advertise ipernity. Alternatively Creative Commons could be an option. But then we all need to be sure how to use such images.

And what comes to CC, I suggest authors using CC Attribution + non Commersial.

Adding no derivative is too exclusive. Then even adding any text on the image is against authors will.

Here are also some photos of photographers already published here at ipernity under Creative Commons license:

www.ipernity.com/search/photo?opt=1&q=photographer&w=0&t=0&lic=wd&s=0

If "share alike", it means the image should be shared under the same license.
If 2non-commercial", then: NonCommercial means not primarily intended for or directed towards commercial advantage or monetary compensation.”

wiki.creativecommons.org/wiki/NonCommercial_interpretation

So, supposedly advertising of non-commercial photography club should be alright.

In the meantime, there are three publishing-ready proposals for the envisioned advertising campaign on Facebook. For all three pictures, the photographers and the persons photographed have given their permission to use the pictures for this purpose royalty-free.

In its meeting yesterday, the ima team decided that the target group of the first advertising campaign are well-off older hobby photographers in western countries with high buying potential, who shoot with classic cameras, are interested in image editing, photo books, photo accessories, or photo sharing and go online via laptop or desktop.

Why? Because ipernity's strengths clearly lie in the desktop version and not in the mobile versions. Furthermore, this target group is the most likely that the clicks (we have to pay for !) will lead to registrations, because this target group is not completely fixated on smartphones or tablets, both in terms of age and technical orientation.

Because of our limited budget, we initially only want to place these ads in countries where English, French or German is spoken.

Please feel free to suggest a fourth photo that fits into such a campaign. However, you would also have to care about obtaining the permissions for royalty-free use. We will then do the final editing

About ipernity´s Twitter:
Since Sami will no longer be in charge of ipernity's Twitter account, I will now take over. I myself have been using Twitter as @Kiezkickerde (https://www.twitter.com/Kiezkickerde) since the middle of 2009, have around 1,000 followers there and, after around 45,000 tweets, am certainly now sufficiently familiar with the usual manners and social rules as well as the way it works to use the account well for ipernity.

As for the further development of the account, I will certainly continue to post the team news there, but also outstanding photos and blog posts that show what distinguishes ipernity from other photo communities.
These can be, for example, photos and blog posts under which a lively discussion has developed that goes beyond comments like "Great post!" or "Great photo!" in terms of content. Or photos that have implemented our relatively unique feature of the PictureInPicture function in a great way.

In order to achieve this, I will, on the one hand, pick out appropriate things for myself from the corresponding sections of www.ipernity.com/explore/whatshot, which contains many excellent examples. And of course I will have a look at the corresponding hashtags on ipernity - #ipernity of course, but maybe also on #flickrdown or something, where you could come by with a possible alternative to it with a wink.

But I would also like to ask you to support me a little, for example by drawing my attention to interesting blog posts and photos that are worth a closer look but are not yet in Explore. As I said, I am particularly interested in photos and posts that show well what makes ipernity special, what distinguishes ipernity positively from other photo communities. However, I am not interested in your reports about your last weekend, even if there should be 200 comments on them - it should already be a contribution that deals with ipernity itself.
