Victorian Clock Tower ~ Salisbury

Known locally as Little Ben, this clock tower has an interesting history. The wall at the base formed part of Salisbury's 3 jails, dating from around 1569. The main jail was sold to the local Infirmary in 1822, with many changes over the years, until it was closed in 1997 and converted to residential use. The cells beneath the tower remained as a lock-up for local drunks for many years. Salisbury District Hospital is now 1½ miles south of the city at Odstock.
