What a wonderful memento, Rosa! Prince Philip always fascinated me, I wondered how he could stand being so invisible - or barely visible. Maybe it suited him, I don't know. He seemed much more jolly than the Queen, or Charles, for that matter!. I think he was universally loved.

Schitterende opnames ,Rosa.
Uitstekend in beeld gebracht door jouw vader.
Er werd altijd verteld ,dat Prince Philip altijd 3mtr. achter de koningin moest lopen.

Hartelijke groeten, Frans.

Excellent! Even his more risqué or downright rude comments were laced with humour and you couldn't remain appalled for long!

Beautiful memory and tribute to this great and humorous man!

Was your father a professional photographer, or why did he get so close?
Rosalyn Hilborne club has replied to Dida From Augsburg
Thank you Dida. My father took wedding photographs and portraits, but it wasn't his main job. For this picture he was behind the barrier but Prince Philip came over. He chatted to many in the crowds.

What lovely photos and memories Rosa. Prince Phillip was well known for always taking the trouble to chat with the "ordinary" people rather than the big-wigs. When he used to visit Royal Navy ships and Establishments, it was not unusual for him to be found sneaking off for a beer with the crew rather than the officers. I suspect he always enjoyed the chance for a break from the formality of his position. I wish I'd met him!

I had not idea your father was a photographer (why would I)? I'm guessing that influenced your decision to take up photography as a hobby.

Enjoy the rest of the weekend and have a good week.

I am pleased but not surprised at what you say Keith. There was a special place in his heart for the Royal Navy of course.

I used to love watching my father develop his photos Keith. He was wedding photographer at most of the weddings where we lived, but his main job was as a glove factory manager.

Sunday greetings....another nice sunny day :)

LOVELY MEMORY

TS A SAD DAY THE DEATH OF THE DUKE. I LIVED AND WORKED ON THE SANDRINGHAM ESTATE. I HAVE STRONG MEMORIES IF HIM ... OF ENCOUNTERS WITH HIM DRIVING THE CARRIAGE HORSES HE SO LOVED ALONG THE SANDRINGHAM WOODLANDS. AND ALSO OF BEING A MINOR GROOM OF THOSE HANOVARIAN HORSES AND BEING UNCEREMONIOUSLY DUMPED BY ONE ONE DAY WHEN EXERCISING. THE DUKE WAS BLUNT AND OFTEN DIFFICULT SOUL. THAT SAID.. HE GAVE UP HIS LIFE TO SUPPORT HIS PRINCESS. THE QUEEN

Thank you Pam.

I visited the Sandringham Estate in 2018 and loved it! What lovely memories you have of your time there. A very sad day, especially for The Queen after 73 years of marriage and support.

Hi Rosa,
A very nice and special memory for you.
The Duke was a credit to the nation (unlike some of his descendants), and a wonderful husband to the Queen. We will all sadly miss him.

Best wishes
Peter
