Architecture ..

Architecture ..
of old -
no longer able to patch it up -
this downtown building will be demolished -
yet, as much as can be salvaged will be -
and used in the one replacing it -
originally it was a wood building (late 1800's) -
but burned -
replaced by a brick structure ( from research) -
it has held many businesses -
the note on the top photo -
shows where a metal rod was capped with the star shape -
to keep the building from cracking any more -
from the great Charleston Earthquake in 1886 -
the Earthquake was so strong it damaged buildings at least as far as Danville, Virginia

I believe I have seen those rods with crosses or x's on the end. Don't remember if it was here or maybe in south Georgia. You are always stirring up curiosity.

Sir Richard, what would life be without stirring ' up curiosity ' - at least with my Phantom Friend ?

Could have been in S GA since it was a huge earthquake !
