Faulbaum-Bläuling - Celastrina argiolus - Holly Blue - PiP
Der kleine Faulbaum-Bläuling (Celastrina argiolus) ist einer der wenigen Bläulinge, die man auch im Gelände gut bestimmen kann. Am ehesten kann man ihn mit dem Alexis-Bläuling (siehe PiP 1) verwechseln. Auffallend ist die blassblaue Färbung der Flügel-Oberseite beider Geschlechter (s. PiP 2, lizenzfreies Foto von Holger Gröschl, naturspektrum.de) und vor allem die sehr helle Färbung der Flügelunterseiten mit leichtem blauen Einschlag und mit etlichen schwarzen Punkten und Strichen, welche man im Bild gut erkennen kann. Diese Falterart kommt in Europa, Nordafrika und Nordamerika in lichten Biotopen wie auch Gärten vor, daher auch sein Name "Garten-Bläuling". Er ist zwar weit verbreitet, aber dennoch eine recht seltene Falterart.

The small Holly Blue (Celastrina argiolus) is one of the few blue butterflies that can be identified quite reliably in the field. Most likely it can be confused with Glaucopsyche alexis (see PiP 1). The pale blue colouration of the wing top of both sexes (s. PiP 2, licence-free photo by Holger Gröschl naturspektrum.de) especially the very light colouration of the underside of the wings with a slight blue tinge and several black dots and lines, which can be clearly seen in the picture, are striking. This butterfly species is found in Europe, North Africa and North America in light biotopes as well as gardens, hence its German name "Garden Blue". Although it is widespread, it is nevertheless quite a rare butterfly species.
