Im Märzenbecherwald - In the spring snowflake forest - Leucojum vernum - 2 PiP

A special feature in some Franconian forests is the spring snowflake (Leucojum vernum), which is sometimes confused by laymen with the snowdrop (Galanthus nivalis). The spring snowflake occurs in moist mixed deciduous forests, as here in an uncountable mass stand in the Riedholz natural forest reserve near Schweinfurt Germany). During the flowering season, this mass occurrence of the snowflake naturally attracts large numbers of nature lovers who want to admire this natural spectacle. It is particularly delightful that the whole forest is filled with a pleasant perfume-like scent because of the many blossoming spring snowflakes.
The spring snowflake is considered to be specially protected and, according to the German Red List, endangered.
