Gestatten: Blaue Holzbiene, Geschlecht männlich - Allow me: Violet carpenter bee, sex male

Im Mittelmeerraum ist die Blaue Holzbiene (Xylocopa violocea) eine der häufigsten Bienenarten. Diese sehr große Biene, die manche mit einer Hummel verwechseln, kommt mittlerweile häufig auch in Mitteleuropa vor (Klimawandel!). Sie lebt immer als Solitärbiene, das Brutnest wird in Altholz angelegt.
Beachten sollte man, dass weibliche Tiere einen Stachel besitzen. Sie verhalten sich dem Menschen gegenüber aber nicht aggressiv und stechen nur in größter Not.
Das Bild entstand in meinem Garten, wo sich zur Zeit regelmäßig ein Männchen auf einem Insektenhotel aufhält und auf Weibchen wartet, die gezielt angeflogen werden. Männchen erkennt man an der gelben Stelle an den beiden Fühlerspitzen (siehe Notizen und das PiP).

In the Mediterranean region, the violet carpenter bee (Xylocopa violocea) is one of the most common bee species. This very large bee, which some people confuse with a bumblebee, is now also frequently found in Central Europe (climate change). It always lives as a solitary bee, the brood nest is built in old wood.
It should be noted that female animals have a sting. However, they do not behave aggressively towards humans and only sting in the greatest distress.
The picture was taken in my garden, where at the moment a male regularly hangs out on an insect hotel and waits for females to fly to. Males can be recognised by the yellow spot on the tips of the two antennae (see notes and PiP).
