Kleiner Fuchs - Optimal Sonne tanken - Optimal sunbathing

Der Kleine Fuchs (Aglais urticae) ist ein in Europa und Asien weit verbreiteter und häufig vorkommender Tagfalter. Er kommt fast überall vor, wo seine Raupennahrungspflanze, die Große Brennnessel (Urtica dioica), wächst. Er lebt in zwei bis drei Generationen pro Jahr und überwintert als Falter. Der Falter saugt Nektar an Hunderten von Pflanzenarten. Nach der Überwinterung tankt der Kleine Fuchs sehr gerne die Wärme der Sonne, indem er sich mit ausgebreiteten Flügeln ungefähr senkrecht zu den Sonnenstrahlen setzt (Unterschied zum Zitronenfalter! Siehe Gonepteryx rhamni) und so die Sonnenwärme optimal aufnimmt.
Bemerkenswert ist, dass seit einigen Jahren vor allem in Westeuropa die Bestände des Kleinen Fuchses stark rückläufig sind, was auf die Veränderungen der klimatischen Bedingungen zurückgeführt wird (siehe english wikipedia).

The small tortoiseshell (Aglais urticae) is a common butterfly that is widespread and common in Europe and Asia. It is found almost everywhere where its caterpillar host plant, the common nettle (Urtica dioica), grows. It lives in two to three generations per year and overwinters as a mobutterfly. The butterfly sucks nectar on hundreds of plant species. After hibernating, the small tortoiseshell likes to soak up the warmth of the sun by sitting with its wings spread out roughly perpendicular to the sun's rays (in contrast to the common brimstone! See Gonepteryx rhamni) and thus optimally absorbs the heat of the sun.
It is worth noting that for some years now, especially in Western Europe, populations of the small tortoiseshell have been in sharp decline, which is attributed to changes in climatic conditions (see english wikipedia).
