Der Glückspilz Amanita muscaria - The good luck mushroom Amanita muscaria - PiP

Many think that the poisonous fly agaric (Amanita muscaria) would have its name from ingredients that could kill insects (flies, etc.). However, experiments have shown that the insecticidal effect is very low. The name fly agaric is much better explained if we interpret "fly" as the intoxicating effect of its ingredients. So fly as a symbol of madness and intoxication. In various cultures, the fly agaric was and is used as an intoxicating drug. By the way, the fly agaric is often also a symbol of good luck, like the ladybug.
The picture was taken in a mixed beech forest with birch trees. The fly agaric mycelium likes to form a symbiosis with birch roots. A young fly agaric shows the PiP.
