Little local parish church spotted on a walk.

Little local parish church spotted on a walk.
I hadn't noticed it before. It has a pleasing and colourful frontage.
There was a sign on the door saying 'No more than 64 worshippers'. As this was the first Sunday when the churches were allowed to open, I had a peek inside. Let's just say that, while there was a full service going on, 64 was wildly optimistic (I counted 3 worshippers)!
But at least they were widely spread around the church, wearing masks, and not all bunched together!
Well done them!!

I like it's plain but distinctive exterior. Fits in well to it's surroundings.

Indeed, Jean. I hadn't found much to excite the trigger finger on my walk until I turned round, to read something on my phone screen and looked up and thought ... Hmmm, maybe ...

Striking tilt. It makes the photo dynamic without being off-putting. Which results in a striking view altogether.

And that cross is in just the right place.

I did adjust the tilt a little bit but not by much. It's amazing what a difference a very minor adjustment can make. Well spotted John!

And also, John don't you feel that the higher level cable seems to just about hold it all together. You can feel the tension in the effort!
(Well I could!)

A church with a nice frontage like this deserves more than 3 worshipers but a terrific capture never the less Andy

I'm sure you're right, José Manuel. This did not start out as a church, that's for sure. And this is a poor section of town, with a high number of people from The Dominican Republic in particular living here (among others). Maybe this is a Christian sect from Central America. When I popped inside, the service seemed standard for the Catholic faith and I could only see the backs of the worshippers heads as the light was low.
A lot of of my comments are pure supposition, as I'm sure you can tell, but nevertheless based on observation and a general understanding of some of the ways of the world!

Good street scene Andy. I like the simple style of this church. Quite unusual for Spain I would think? Have a good new week.

Many thanks. Pleased you like it!
Maybe unusual in your 1970 visit, Rosa, but fairly common now.
I think we held a similar discussion on Pano, when you were surprised when I mentioned that it had been found that Spain was the least devout country in Europe, judging by the proportion of the population who were churchgoers.

I have visited many times since 1970 Andy, but you never really find out about a country when it's just a holiday do you.

A lovely colourful photo Andy..............and a great find. I love the contemporary look of the church frontage and it fits in well with it's surroundings (which leads me to think it wasn't always a church)!

I especially like those magnificent stained glass panels next to the entrance which I assume are part of the church. I'm a bit surprised no one has mentioned them yet!

Me too, thank you! They make the shot and Volker took your lead, Keith!
I think you may be right. Maybe the old parish church fell down (it happens) and they needed somewhere cheap and cheerful as a stopgap and of course, it stayed.

An interesting church and yes, 3 churchgoers should minimise virus worries. A good street image.

I wouldn't have gone in, even if they'd given me 10,000€, if there had been a full congregation, George!

Indeed, Sarah!
Maybe the fear of going out, of crowds, of ... everything!
Or maybe this is back at the usual numbers because, as I mentioned, Spain is just about one of the most secular countries in the world. I think this is because the official church is STILL associated with the repressive tyranny of the Franco era. This is polemic even today. I have to be very careful as I have some students who feel Franco saved Spain from communism ... and here they are right. A difficult period of history to be sure!

I think a lot of people are scared of risking it by going out where there are crowds. I know I am. I think I'd rather wait and see what happens in a month or so. I love the colourful little street here, Andy

Andy Rodker club has replied to Jenny McIntyre club
Me too, Jenny.
Yes, I go for long walks but avoid crowds, I won't have a beer or coffee at a terrace cafe, and certainly not a meal in a restaurant and my heart bleeds for these establishments.
