Castellana 77. Azca Business Centre, Madrid.

Castellana 77. Azca Business Centre, Madrid.
I know the white tower (Torre Picasso) well, having given 100s of classes there over the years, but I know nothing about the building in the foreground except that I like it!
CORRECTION! I looked in Wikipedia and found out that it is called Castellana 77, and was a novelty in its day. Built between 1973 and 1977 by architect Manuel Aymerich Amadiós, its facade is 100% glass and it incorporated these curving solar panels making it the first building fully self-sufficient in energy in Madrid. It was considered 'ultra-modern' at its inception. I think it still looks very modern!

Oh I love the architecture of this building - so effective. I can see why you are attracted to it.

Yup! It struck me immediately.
Thank you Jenny.
The difficulty was getting into the right position to take the shot as the sun and its reflection off the windows made it tricky.

It's certainly eye-catching I think it is intended as a giant sundial when you look at the shadow cast from the piece at the top

Buena foto y arquitecturas soberbias, aunque a muchos nos guste más vivir sin vecinos.

Thank you, José Manuel.
I am happy to be gregarious, but equally content to be on my own for months and even years. So lockdowns don't bother me (of course the wider implications worry me a lot). I am perfectly content to be on my own. My girlfriend can't understand this. This is not the Spanish way!

Ooh that's an unusual curved design! I wonder how it works inside. If there have to be high rises, this isn't too bad.

Hi Andy

A very nice picture, wonderfully composed.

Fantastic colours too

Perhaps the floors in the new building curve upwards too!

Best Wishes, and stay safe!!

The stems are obviously sun protection slats. Due to the 'unconventional installation' they are not efficient in all offices. But there is a dynamic sweep into the facade. ;-)

I think this 1980s building was a bit ahead of the 'design for show, not substance' game. But the effect of the sweeps is simply pleasing, imho!

Additional info! The building is of the early 1970s and was the first to be fully self-sufficient in energy in Madrid. I could not have been more wrong about 'show not substance'! It seems the two need not be mutually exclusive!!
