White Winter Wonderland

White Winter Wonderland
Since we don't appear to be having any real snow this winter, here is a shot taken a few years back. Another from the Saddleworth area, taken just above Chew reservoir. It was a cold long walk back to my car but quite a few photos taken like this.

Enjoy full screen

Thanks for the suggestion Jaap. I have adopted it instead of the original 'Bygone Winters'.

You are showing your age Nick. Even in my late sixties I still get excited by the white stuff. :)

It looks so romantic and wild, but no doubt exceeding cold!
A novelty to us down under, for the most part, Herb

It was freezing indeed Diana. Quite different that your Summer 40's but you still see snow on your extensive travels I know.

I wish we also had some of this days this year Herb. But here in the Netherlands we didn't have one snowy day this winter :(

Really beautiful. Greetz, Christien.

No sign of any yet in this dreadfully wet Winter. Every day, 4-9C with rain and heavy depressing clouds. There were no snow either when I went to Scotland to look for it, but it is there now - typical. maybe in a few weeks?

Well composed Herb..........I like the way the snowy landscape almost merges into the blue sky. You have exposed for the snow perfectly as well, something that is not always easy to do.

The sunshine is lovely, but as Diana has already noted..........it looks very cold!

Thanks Keith. Glad you enjoyed this. As you say, always tricky to get exposures right with scenes like this. This was taken with my old Olympus DSLR which I still have and am reminded here that it took great pictures. Coincidentally, I am planning a walk back up to this spot and little beyond, this coming Wednesday. It will be very cold too as it is always windy and the temp forecast down to 3C.

Hi Toz, glad you liked this one which I had to employ my usual edit tricks to get it just right. As said to Keith we are returning here on Wed and then hoping to walk on to Laddow Rocks again -that's if we don't sink to our knees in the saturated peat!. I fully expect a very cold walk but I will take the camera as usual and hope for a shot or two.

Climate change has a lot to answer for Dany. All this flooding, winds and dreary weather, give me the old days of rel weather again.

WOW WOW WOW!! Herb, this is such a lovely winter wonderland picture!! Totally breathtaking. I'm sorry that you haven't had the winter you're used to, it's all topsy-turvy out there these days. Thanks for this shot, it's a total winner! :)

My thanks for this Janet. It's all been replaced by floods and black skies this year so far. Hopefully it may change soon.

Reminds me of my 1970s commutes from Rochdale to Dobcross via Grains Bar. I had to walk through similar snow when the road was closed to vehicles.

Herb Riddle club has replied to David Slater (Spodde… club
Ah, those were the days David. As a bus driver you would have seen the tops around Saddleworth many times like this. It can certainly be tricky at times and I must admit seeing pubic transport vehicles skidding around on the ice and snow -looks no joke at all. Walking can be just as dicey. Not much chance of this type of snow this year though.

Cheers for this rare visit.

A stunning shot Herb. 2010 was great for snow down here as well. If I remember rightly, we had a white Christmas.

Thanks Rosa - Just looked at my 2010 Christmas Eve Dovestones shots and they too look similar to this , so yes we certainly must have had a White Christmas. Glad you liked it.
