Salford Quays are the former Salford Docks that were part of the once thriving Port of Manchester. Now thriving as a retail, cultural and residential area which includes Media City where the broadcasters BBC and ITV have their northern bases. The City of Salford and the City of Manchester sit either side of the River Irwell forming the core of a large urban metroplitan area surrounded by various other towns.

Two events were staged over the weekend of 25/26 May 2019 to celebrate the 100 year anniversary of the formation of Ribble Motor Services Limited. On Saturday 25 May 2019 Stagecoach North West hosted an open day at their Morecambe garage. Stagecoach acquired Ribble in May 1989 thus a thirty year anniversary also. The city of Kingston-upon-Hull, known simply as Hull, takes its name from the less obvious River Hull rather than the significantly larger River Humber into which the River Hull flows. The two dominant bus operators in the city are Stagecoach in Hull (licensed as Lincolnshire Road Car Company) and East Yorkshire (now part of the Go-Ahead Group).
