Torture because you'd like a Guinness, or torture because you hate it, Leon? ;-)

Because I WANT it, of course - and I can't get it here from the cask!! It's just terrible, living in a city which is chosen year by year to the best city all over the world to live in and getting that great stuff at only 2 or 3 places in a propper quality ... :-/

Hey Amelia, we're watching a large St.Patrick's day parade in Savannah, Georgia USA. Its one of the largest in our country, maybe second to New York? We've watched Morning Mass at the lovely St. Patrick's Cathedral there and now the parade is about to kick off. and our last name is about as Irish as you can get !!! The day started off cold but is now warmer and will be a lovely day in Savannah for this annual "party weekend" there.

a nicely composed shot here, good job...Irish Whiskey?? :) Happy St. Patrick's Day...

Sarah...with Hugs and best wishes

Amelia club has replied to Sarah O' club
I can take or leave Guinness, Sarah, but I do like Irish whiskey in a coffee with floating cream on the top. It looks a bit like the glass on the right, but a lot smaller unfortunately. ;-)

Enjoy your day.

Hugs to Georgia, Amelia

When we first moved back here, I had the nicest and funniest Irish next door neighbour. Sadly he is no longer with us but I'll always remember his happy "top o' the morning to ya" . All the best, Rosa.

The Irish are a lovely race of people on the whole, Rosa. I once went out with a guy from Limavady and visited Northern Ireland in troubled times. Even then they were always smiling.

O wow, you got plenty of really good shots for St.Patrick's day! I'm afraid I haven't found a single one, not even a shamrock...

It must be a lot easier to get St.Patrick's day photos in the UK, Gudrun. Today I manage to get a photo of some clover which I'll ad as a PiP at some point.

Still, i'm always having trouble to find photos for typically Anglo-Saxon themes like Thanksgiving, Halloween, Valentine's Day.... It's just something I can't relate to. That makes it more of a challenge, I guess;-)

Amelia club has replied to Gudrun club
Thanksgiving would be beyond me too, and the other 'festivals' can be so contrived.

I'll take the Guinness..

The number of folk who celebrate it who have zero connection never cease to amaze me. (yes I could if I wanted too.. but I dont)

Bet the English dont turn up so quick for 23rd April !! (I DO.. !!)

LOVE that glass.. would love to acquire one !

Amelia club has replied to Pam J club
Being a Scot, II don't celebrate S,Patrick's Day either, Pam; but luckily our local pub had some freebies from Guinness and made a weekend of it. I bet they won't serve haggis, neeps and tatties on November 3Oth though. ;-)

I was married in Edinburgh the day after Burns Night. We started our celebrations at the Burns Night Supper at "The Balmoral" in Edinburgh the night before !

I have been to many Burns Nights.. but my husband(to be then) never had.. and his face as the 7' 4' Piper in his Bonnet and Pipes played the Haggis in.... is something I will never forget ! He then addressed the Haggis to total perfection.

I have seen alot of good Burns evenings.. but that was golddust !!

Amelia club has replied to Pam J club
Sounds like the best ever wedding celebration, Pam. I remember, sometime in the 1940s or early 50s on Hogmanay, a lone piper playing in A relatively small apartment in Dundee. It was purgatory, but I love the pipes out of doors.

I think St,Patrick's day is mostly celebrated in Ireland and the USA, Karen. The song is really very sad in many ways.

... Guinness, yes !! ... on St. Patrick's Day, some (a lot) American bars serve green beer; it is AWFUL ... somehow, the green food coloring perverts the beer: AWFUL ...

(Well, for the other 364 days, most American mass-produced factory beers are just a step above awful, anyway.)

Try Sam Adams

www.samueladams.com

..... very different.. they brew in the European way. And... as I was teethed on CAMRA ... it do have very good comparisons !

I am English... and a CAMRA member.. even though the wrong side of the Pond now. The craft beers are alive and growing here... you just have to look a little harder

"Sam" is very livable with... but I would kill for a decent English craft ale sometimes !!
L. L. Wall club has replied to Pam J club
Hi Pam ... yes, Sam Adams Lager is drinkable (but I'm not a proponent of their flavored iterations; too contrived and off-on-a-tangent), and it is a go-to brew when in New England. In Mid-Atlantic, Yuengling is my stand-by. If you can ever find Allagash White (but it is not an ale), from a southern Maine microbrewery, give it a try. Regards, Wally ...
