Smithy House

Smithy House
The Saturday Challenge: This week's challenge: Vintage/Retro - take a new photo of your choice and make it look like it's from an earlier era. You can choose the era.

In the original photo I removed wires and TV aerials using Photoshop. I then used Pic Monkey to age the photo, and applied a fairly standard Victorian frame.

This challenge was difficult for me, as I don't do very much post processing, but was given hints. Thank you Val. :-)

Hello Amelia very nicely done indeed .. think i would have used Photoscape to do all the alterations you mentioned

Best wishes ... steve

I'm not into post-processing really, Steve, and only use it to straighten horizons and possibly brighten things up a little. have never heard of Photoscape until you mentioned it. I applied to join this group after last week's challenge was 'Curves'. I could have coped with that. ;-)

Many thanks, Keith. I'm actually hopeless at processing, but thought it was worth a try!

Wow, Amelia, I am quite impressed! You even took out the aerial antennae on the chimney stacks! I knew you could do it and you did it well! :-)

Besides PicMonkey, my other favorite photoshop program to use is Photoscape, which is both free and easy to use (it's the same one S Drury uses).

You should have seen my first attempt, Val. It looked as if this beautiful old house had been in hellfire and had just been doused by the fire brigade. Deleted! ;-)

Looks good and interesting notes. I have only ever used Picasa 3 for editing and have never once even looked at what Photoshop or any other editing tool could do. I need to splah out on a decent camera first though! Priorities!

I have Photoshop on this computer, Andy, it isn't the latest or best version by any means, and came free. I find it useful - mainly for straightening my horizons in landscapes. For some reason, I get them out by between 0 and 3 degrees. ;-)

Well done, Amelia! That looks perfect, the style suits the house!
If you have Photoshop you might want to have a look at Nik filters, they are free now and can be used as a plug in. I find that I use Color Efex Pro ( lots of useful filters like Polarizer, ND-Filters etc...) and Silver Efex Pro (b/w conversion) a lot and it's fun to play around with.
