  • Went to the sea for some fresh air

The flowers starting to go over
It looked as if it was going to be a so-so day, but we like to get out and about if we can to get some fresh air, so we went to the sea again. The tide was in and the wind wasn't so strong as yesterday - but it was still cold............... Boy was it cold - it's August for heaven's sake. It's still classed as summer. We went further up the tors so we weren't as close to the beach as we were yesterday. I took some quick pics of some wild flowers growing near the edge of the tors..........…

    Barrel Jellyfish
Thanks to Frank who asked me if the jellyfish I saw today wasn't a Moon Jellyfish and of course I had to go and Google that to check - but apparently it wasn't, but........... He pointed me in the right direction - I found out exactly what it was I saw on the beach today ......... It's a barrel Jellyfish and it's thankfully non-poisonous, to us humans anyway. There was a huge shoal of them spotted just down the coast back in July/August. The warm sea temperatures and the sunny days la…

  • The terrible fires in Turkey....

I'm sure you are all aware of the horrendous fires that are scorching the earth and areas around the southern parts of Turkey. As you also might remember, my daughter lives in that area. She contacted me to tell me that she's okay but the fires have done an awful amount of damage to the beautiful forests near her. The nearest fire is about 3kms from her home, but luckily there aren't any trees near her home, but she's totally drenched the area around the house and also the house itself, just…

  • My garden is starting to look really colourful.....

    I do love these colours
The tulips and primroses are joining the daffodils to colour my garden - now the bluebells are starting to get in on the act and are coming out all over the place, making the banks on the driveway very woodlandy and appealing. As you can see - they are fully out now and certainly brightening up the garden..... Then I noticed that the bluebells are starting to colour the sides of the lower part of the driveway - I love them there because they grow in amongst the l…

  • My neighbours have just told me....

Apparently all three chicks have flown their nest.......... all safely too. I've checked all around the house and there are no dead chicks nor even any feathers anywhere. They were all at the bottom of the roof, tottering along the gutter, albeit wobbly enough for Ann and Peter to hold their breath a couple of times. Then tAnn and Peter went indoors because of the rain and when they came out when it stopped - all three chicks were conspicuous by their absence. Even all the gulls have gone too so…

As you can see the flowers are just amazing..... It is indeed a very distinctive flower and it'll look like this til around November - lucky or what.

  • On-line shopping.......

As many of you on here know, I'm not all that clever on my feet and my back really hurts when I walk or stand for long, so I shop on-line for my groceries with Asda. This is a brilliant way for me to do the shopping without it hurting my back or for me to get side-tracked by goodies on offer................ Well this week's shopping came this morning by the lovely Carl, who repairs or makes computers. He's a lovely lad and we chat when he comes. He's so kind - he puts everything on the kitche…

  • Yesterday was a day I don't want to have again....

Sorry I didn't come on here yesterday folks and didn't comment on any of your blogs and pictures but I was quietly trying to gather my threads of sanity really............ My daughter's friend Sharon, who is coming with me to Turkey, [but she's only staying a week, while I'm there for 3 weeks], came over to [a] cut my hair and [b] finalise my details for the travel and help me sort everything out.......... Well if she hadn't been here, I'd have just crawled into a feotal position and cried…

  • I overdid things - AGAIN!!!!!

The flowers against the fence look so pretty
Hells teeth, I'm 68 years of age and you'd honestly think that I was old enough to learn from my mistakes - but NO - I went and overdid things again to the detriment of my back.............. I decided to change my sheets on my own, well everyone else was either out or away, and so that just left me. The sun was shining and it would be a perfect day to dry my sheets on the line. So I heaved and managed to strip the bed, " not too bad " I thought to myself. It did hurt my back putting the sheet…

I've just had a message from Gracie who says she's been hospitalized for at least a week as she's had to lose two pieces of her intestines!!! So please join me and wish her a very speedy recovery and as little pain and discomfort as possible. What with John (Stormlizard) being in hospital too in Denmark, what is going on with our group eh? • Just looked out my kitchen window and saw this...

This huge white lilac tree just outside my kitchen
This morning whilst I was washing up - I noticed the blue sky behind the white lilac which is just outside my kitchen window. The wind was blowing but the white blooms stayed put. I couldn't resist taking some pictures - the blue sky only lasted about an hour, then it was clouds galore - in fact at one time I thought it would pour down, the dark grey was so prevalent. Anyway folks, I was so thrilled to see these flowers, and I know that soon they'll disappear, further down the drive is the…

My daughter's new life in Turkey
Well folks, at long last I have arranged to go and visit my daughter in Turkey - it's over 2 years since I last went there and I do miss it I must admit. So far (fingers crossed and anything else pliant enough to be crossed!!!!) I haven't visited the hospital which has kept me away from Turkey. Mandi is coming here for two weeks from the 2nd to the 15th of May, and we'll go back together and I'm staying there for 5 weeks, so plenty of time to take loads of pictures. She is taking me to all n…

Sorry I haven't been on here much these last couple of days folks, but I seem to be busy, busy, busy. Can't see what I've actually achieved though - but the days seem to be whizzing past quickly. Tomorrow I have a nice day planned - Joyce and Richard next door, are having a house warming party, which is combined with their Silver Wedding anniversary. So it's strange really - I've lived next door to that house for almost 60 years and this will be the first time I'll have gone next door!!! Stra…

The bouganvillea looks so striking against the white walls
Sorry I haven't written for a while, but to be honest, I've been too busy trying to stay cool here!!! The high temperatures here really do take it out of you. We are like wet rags before we even start the day!!! I have only recently been diagnosed with COPD, so the hot weather isn't too good for me. I had hoped I'd be able to walk around with my walker, but to be honest, I'm exhausted just walking down Mandi's drive!! I had hoped to have become rather browner too - but it's too damn hot to sit i…

  • A break in the sunny days - great for the garden though!!!!

You can just make out the tiny apples starting to grow
This is just a quickie, I realised that I hadn't written for some time - so I apologise (or do I gain thanks for being quiet!!!?) We have had a glorious May - I think we had mostly warm sunny days, with bright blue skies most days, so it was quite a shock (not an unpleasant one) yesterday, when I woke up to a wet cat wanting to be dried off!!!. We had had some rain, which was really welcomed, my grass - or should I say "straw" - was very happy to be wet again. Well we didn't have a great amou…

  • The garden kedis (kittens to you and me)

    This is Gingie
There are other kittens and cats who live in the garden here. Mandi and Dogan have made beds for them under the outside stairs, they've put blankets and cushions for them. They also are fed twice a day and fresh water supplied daily. There are about eight regular cats, who come when called, who had appeared when tiny kittens having been abandoned by the mother cats. This is Gingie - so called because she's ginger and white. She was one of the first to arrive, she was so small, she's g…

  • She's home!!!!!!

2 days after the op and already out in the air
Wow they certainly move fast in Turkey. Mandi had that major operation on Tuesday and she's already home today!!!! She sent me this picture to show me how much better she feels. I've already drummed it into her about taking things very slowly to allow her body to recuperate. Obviously the doctor has had the results of the path lab swabs, and they must be clear or else she wouldn't have been allowed home so soon. Now I can relax and breathe out! Am starting on the soft toy for my gr…

    Primroses lining the drive
I went out on Tuesday to go to the doctors to make an appointment but mainly to give the car a run. I'm finding it harder and harder walking up the driveway nowadays, my back tends to go into spasms, but the main excuse is the giddiness. The extreme unbalanced feeling I have everytime I stand up is so sick making, that really that's the main reason I don't walk far nowadays. There is nothing they can do about that - vertigo at its worse. So I just have to put up with it. Some days are better tha…

  • The Japanese anemone is taking over the garden now!!!!

There is a huge amount of anemones
I'm sorry folks that I haven't written much lately, but every day seems to be the same to me. I can't believe it that it's over seven months since I last left this house!!!! I'm not trying to win a contest on who can stay indoors for the longest time, but I can't geet out of the house without a car and my car has given up the ghost - last year!!! Of course I can't get someone to take me places, because the social distance can't be kept in a car!!!! I watch the live web-cam on Westward Ho! so at…
