Last year Fred the Shed cut back my Himalayan Honeysuckle - [Leicisterious Formosa] and this year I've been knocked out with the way the plant has come back with a vengeance...........

Leycesteria Formosa - Himalayan Honeysuckle

As you can see the flowers are just amazing.....

It is indeed a very distinctive flower and it'll look like this til around November - lucky or what.

I've never seen anything like this where I live; What a wonderful garden you have, Jenny! Do these blooms have a smell like regular honeysuckle?

No my garden isn't beautiful at all Val - I can't do any gardening myself, and my gardener is ill so it's been left untended for a long time - so that's why I'm finding a lot of wild flowers I suppose. This garden is a natural one for wildlife of all kinds. As for a scent - there doesn't appear to be one, which is an awful shame - imagine the aroma if it did - it's a huge bush

Very pretty.. I'm afraid I won't be able to do the Honeysuckle in my garden. Not unless I want to put it in the back and I don't really.. At least not now.. It needs a lot of sun and where I put it is partially shaded most of the day till late afternoon..

Where this plant is situated is virtually in the shade at all times, it's in front of a few conifers and there are large lilac trees in front of it. So the sun doesn't really manage to seek it out very often. i think it might need acidic soil though - because the conifers will have altered the soil

Maybe I'll try if I can get it reasonably inexpensive.. But also the soil is not acidic in the front anymore. We used to be able to grow Azaleas but they won't anymore. And I've tried Hydrangeas too and they won't last. I've tried adding stuff to the soil both from the store and even using lemon and Orange peels!

Rick showed me that behind the garage there was, he says, honeysuckle on the vine. Though when he showed me it had no flowers. (this was Sunday). Looked like nothing more than leafy vine. He says it smells when the flowers are out. I don't see how I could have lived there for 29 years and missed anything pretty! I'm not sure he is correct.

Honeysuckle can survive most places. If Rick remembers it smelling beautiful, then it must be right.
