The tide is almost completely out
Summer has given us another wonderful title to find pictures of - horizontal. Last year we had loads of rain and at times there were strong winds so the rain was almost horizontal at times. Couldn't get a good picture though - so you'll have to put up with these instead........... The lovely horizontal beach at Westward Ho! everything is flat as a pancake when the tide is out. Lovely horizontal clouds here.............. My old cat Pani in his favourite position - horizontal on h…

While I was outside watering the flower pots, it was getting quite dark and I thought that I'd take some night shots of the flowers. There is now four orange lilies and the small geraniums are getting more and more blooms. So here are the lilies............. and the geraniums.............. It's weird that they can look so much more colourful in the flashlight.

  • Guess who's come back????

    - 15 Jul 2013 - 3 comments
I heard a thump on the porch roof this evening and went outside to investigate and guess what??????????????? Yep - Jonathon has returned!! He's been wandering around the houses here, well the 3 of us anyway and apparently the parents have been down to feed it now and then, but why has he gone back up on the porch roof?? He obviously could fly up there, and if he wants to - he can walk around to next door's garden -- I've put out some water in an old litter tray for the birds or animals who…

    Purple toadflax
This flower which is rampant in my garden is a wildflower and I've always called it Loose Strife which it isn't, so I've looked it up in the British Wild Flowers guide and I've found it!!!!!!!!!!! It's called Purple Toadflax!! What a 'orrible name for such a beautiful flower!! It sounds better in Latin though - Linaria purpurea of the plantain family. So now I know - it's something new I've learned today!!!

Today was another glorious day - not as humid and hot as the last couple of days and so I thought I'd try and catch some rays. Oh dear ......... I fell asleep as I tend to do and woke up feeling as if I'd had a swim!!!! I was so so hot and was leaking all over the place. Pippin was in the shade of the trees - see one of us is sensible!!! To cut a long story short, after a lovely cooling shower, feeling somewhat refreshed I went back out into the garden to clean up the blanket and pillows a…

This bison/buffalo has a very bushy coat
Summer has had me trawling my pictures yet again as well as making my poor little grey cells work overtime to do this week's theme. So here we go with my little contribution to - bushy............... This bison/buffalo (sorry don't know the difference!) has a very bushy coat..... My driveway is really bushy...................... The honeysuckle is covering the rowan tree and making it very bushy...... The trees and bushes make this road so pretty.........…

    Relaxing in the sun
I was blessed with a visit from Mandi today. She arrived early as usual and the sky was a gorgeous bright blue. The sun was shining and we opened the back door as well as the windows in the lounge to get a draught through. We went up to Asda for my weekly shopping and luckily they had some air conditioning going on up there, which meant it was quite pleasant shopping there. Once we came home, we had a quick lunch and then we went outside to sunbathe on the driveway............. She is…

  • The Sound of Music????

    - 11 Jul 2013 - 2 comments
Bob Hill and his new wife Betty were vacationing in Europe.....as it happens, near Transylvania . They were driving in a rental car along a rather deserted highway. It was late and raining very hard. Bob could barely see the road in front of the car. Suddenly, the car skids out of control! Bob attempts to control the car, but to no avail! The car swerves and smashes into a tree. Moments later, Bob shakes his head to clear the fog. Dazed, he looks over at the passenger seat and sees hi…

How's this for colour eh?........... I looked out of the bathroom window and saw this magnificant flower on my driveway... I don't normally like bright orange flowers (apart from the mombretia) but this is just beautiful. Even the pods before they open are lovely........... Another yellow lily has come out too................ So my driveway is looking lovely and colourful and there are loads more pods waiting to open!! The tiny geraniums are also starting to come o…

Pippin loves the sun, but he does get a tad hot and he tends to lie in the shade except when I go out to do some weeding, then he's really got to be close to me....... He laid down on the carpet I use for sitting on while I weed, but the sun was getting hot again, he stayed as long as he could............. He seemed to wait for me to take this picture then he conceded defeat and strolled over to the shade again............ I noticed that one of my many lilies has opened...........…

Well I thought I'd seen the last of the little seagull or Jonathon as I've started to call him, but no........... he casually strolled onto my driveway this afternoon as if he's on his own patch!!!! He hopped onto my coal bunker and fell into it - no photos I'm afraid cos I was busy rescuing him............. Then he walked around on top of it and I leant on the top and spoke to him ...... Even came up very close to me which was lovely........ Then he hopped off and proceeded to…

    My new tablet
Some of you will have seen from Mickey that we have bought something that we didn't realise we needed!!! I was trawling on E-Bay and saw a lovely little tablet - not the medicinal kind - which would help me when I go on holiday. I thought they were in the region of £200 each or thereabouts therefore I'd never considered it. There in front of me were some wonderful Android tablets for £50!! I looked at what they offered and apart from Skype, e-mail, video and camera, it gives everything a…

  • Thought you'd want to know.......

    - 07 Jul 2013 - 5 comments
Well when I went to go to bed last night, when I went into the kitchen a little face looked down at me from the porch roof. I did say goodnight to him, but hoped he wouldn't be there in the morning. I went to bed and crossed my fingers that the little one wouldn't be there when I went downstairs or if he was, then at least alive. He wasn't there!! All the food and water I'd left him had gone and so had he. There were no feathers anywhere, so all I can imagine is that the parents came down…

  • Got a problem...........

You remember me telling you that a family of seagulls have designated my four chimney pots as an ideal place for them to have a nest. They've been doing this for years and this year they had three chicks. Normally they fledge without any problems but this year................. This morning I had a phone call from my neighbour who told me that one of the baby seagulls had fallen from the roof and landed on my porch roof!! The space it has to fly back up to the roof is very limited in…

  • Had a visitor here today

    - 05 Jul 2013 - 4 comments
Mandi came up today and we had a great day sitting outside in the sunshine. We Brits have got used to having lousy summers and have moaned about them, but hey - the last few weeks have been great for us. Okay we've had the odd rain shower and the odd overcast day but today the great big yellow thing in the sky decided to visit us and bring with it some lovely temperatures. Mandi and I, after having had our coffees etc, changed our clothing and into our sunbathing garb, and ventured out dul…

View from Empire State Building in New York
Another wonderful choice by Summer - she is so good at thinking of good words that gets our thinking caps on to make sure we can do her themes justice. Here are a few of my contributions.............. My son & his fiancee went to New York and took this lovely picture from the top of the Empire State Building............. This is a picture of the Italian Dolomite mountain range. The altitude was around 35,000 feet! This is coming down at Bodrum, Turkey, with an altitude of p…
