Wipeout!
Another shot from the Surf Boat races, with an "ooops" moment. There are actually two boats here, one obscured by the wave and spray. The nearest boat, however, is having some trouble, as begins to show in PiP1, where one of the rowers is being swept overboard (see helmet in the water amidships) and the helmsman has lost his steering oar. In PiP2 the boat has been swept toward shore and the "lost" rower is heading back to it. I've also now found an extensive video of the event online if you'd like to see more. I took these images at about 3:42:15 of the video. To my surprise, on the video I saw myself briefly on the right of the screen at about then, taking photos.
There's a very obvious musical link.
I feel I should note that the water here is usually clear, the visible murkiness was caused by the large rainfall in previous days washing bushfire ash and damage down the river into the bay.
By way of background information, Surf Boats were developed in the early 20th century by Australian surf life saving clubs, to rescue endangered beach swimmers. The surf life saving clubs then began having competitions with them. The beach safety role now has been taken by jet skis and zodiacs, but Surf Boat competitions remain very popular in Australia and New Zealand.
